The latest and greatest
After a fairly long sabbatical from musical endeavors, I re-entered the fray approximately one and one half years ago. Let me tell you, I was astonished at how far technology had come. I bought quite a bit of gear and set myself up nicely I might add.
So, now some time has passed and newer more improved versions of nearly everything has come out. Somehow, I feel cheated. What is I now upgrade to a dual processor computer, 96k interface...what's next. How does one handle this apparent situation that appears to greatly exagerated in music technology? |

Was there a question in there?
Sorry, I really didn't get it. Which computer should you buy? You don't need to upgrade if your system is working sufficently. Get a better card if anything and maybe Vegas Audio for $199. Unless we're talkin' 486? Mac performa 405 (my first music computer). |

Things are definitely changing. SW companies now seem like they're trying to survive on upgrade fees.
Just upgrade when you have to. Coiuld be a big all-at-once hit, but the alternativer is to shell out each time there's a new buy-me-so-you-don't-miss-out upgrade. Pissiest recent example - Sonic Foundry release Acid Pro 3.0, a year later out comes 4.0 - upgrade for only $150. You can buy the freaking software NEW for $150. So - if you don't gotta have it, wait. You'll hit a point where you DO have to - but you'll probably have saved your self hundreds (thousands) that you didn't really need to spend. |
