sequencer/sampler - recommendations?

Hope I'm posting in the right forum for this kind of question...

I'm looking for some advice.

I play in a three piece band (guitar/bass/drums) and we've been thinking about adding a sequencer/sampler to our recording and live set-up.
Something with cool, tweakable tones for ambient background stuff, but which could also sample/loop guitar phrases, etc for playing back during live performances.

I've been kind of looking at the Yamaha SU700, but is there anything else out there I should consider?

Cheers, ...eon

Okay, first question:

Rangers or Celtic?

What other gear do you have and how much money do you want to spend?

Hi Foo,

First of all:
Rangers or Celtic? - Neither... the Padres!!
I'm one of the few people in this country who really isn't into Football in the slightest (Spent my youth writing songs instead of kicking a ball I guess - what a nerd).

As far as gear goes...
Live: we just have a minimal backline (small Fender guitar amp/Peavey bass amp) and use whatever PA the club we're playing in provides.
Recording: We're about to get ourselves a Yamaha AW4416 (until now we've been bouncing the hell out of our Tascam 424).

Our budget is probably about £300 - £400, so we'll be keeping an eye on eBay. An SU700 just went for around £300 the other day, but I wasn't 100% sure if it would suit our needs or not.

Do you use a groovebox/sampler?

Cheers, ...eon

No, unfortunately I don't. I have a Motif which has some sampling capability, but I've only just got it and haven't got it sorted yet.
I'm wondering if this is the right place for this question as it's more of a 'live' than a studio question.

You might want to try the Cave (or even the Newbies forum) - "I'm thinking about using . . . what do you guys think?" kind of a thing.
And translate your money into $$$ (300 pounds is about $450)

That may at least get you more responses (and more helpful)than this forum.

Good luck,

foo
