what is cubase sx best for....

is cubase considered a tracking, mixing, and mastering program? if not all of the above, which would be it's strongest point, and which would be it's weakest point? if there is a weak point, what software program would you reccomend to help this handicap.

It is definitely NOT a mastering package....

It really is multi-track recording s/w, useful for both tracking and mixing of audio and midi tracks......

so what software would you reccomend for windows to master in? i'm far from mastering anything but i just want some insight for future reference.

You could use Wavelab, but honestly, I can't say for sure because I don't use s/w for mastering....

Serious projects get sent to a proper mastering house, client demos and low-budget stuff I'll do a "quick and dirty" mastering job via the Masterlink (which to me, sounds far better than any of the s/w I've tried)

And I'm not sure what pro mastering houses are using in terms of s/w....!

For mastering I would recommend Wavelab. I've seen (and heard) Wavelab used to master several commercial recordings over the last couple of months.

thanks blue bear and trak, i'll stick to develping my mixes for right now. i would probably experiment with mastering for some friendly promo stuff. even if i mastered my stuff, it is hard to beat the mastering packages out there. they include promo material, and professional packaging at a more cost and time efficient level that most people can't compete with even if they did it on their own. maybe if you had a team to help. i could see myself venturing into a little mastering, but only as a tool to burn enough of my own disks to sell in order to come up with the funds to have it professionally done. thanx
