Of Interest to W2K and XP Users

Brian Livingston of Infoworld mag has been running a column for the past two weeks about disabling unneeded Windows services in W2K and XP. You know, stuff like Windows Indexing Service that starts chugging through your document files on your hard drive right in the middle of the "perfect" tracking session. He recommends going to http://www.blkviper.com/ and checking this guy out. Read the precautions at this site then go to http://www.blkviper.com/WinXP/supertweaks.htm (for XP of course) for step by step instructions. The column author says there are 4 setups defined - He calls them Safe Install, Internet Gateway, Hardcore Gaming, and Rad.

Go to http://www.infoworld.com/articles/op...21opwinman.xml if you want to read the article.

I know nuttin' about W2K or XP but figure someone might glean something useful related to recording.

DeadPoet is on a distinguished road
I did the tweak on my DAW and boy, do I love the difference in loading, running and shutting down the machine !!
If anyone's interested, here's my list:

On a Athlon XP2200+, 1Gb, no SCSI, no floppy, no par/ser ports, no onboard audio; just audiocard and nic + usb mouse:

I disabled about everything except:

Application Management Manual
Event Log Automatic
IMAPI CDBurning COM Svc Manual
(Logical Disk Mgr + Admin Disabled but now the disk mgmnt doesn't work anymore, which is no prob for me personally)
Network Connections Manual
Plug&Play Automatic
Remote Procedure Call Automatic
Server Automatic
Windows Audio Automatic (why not disabled ??? )
Windows Installer Manual
Windows Management Instrumentation Automatic
WMI Drv Extensions Manual
Workstation Automatic

Anyone any remarks ??

Mind you, this is a DAW *only*, no surfing, only sharing files (no printers) with 1 other PC.
