Adaptec Easy CD creator or Nero?

Now that we have moved to win xp, what programme do you guys use to burn back-up CD's and the like? I need to have a program installed in my lap-top (win xp) that will burn Sonar .bun files and save em to a cdrw so I can use em in my DAW (which has win98 and Adaptec Easy CD creator 3.5) Adaptec have vs 5.2 out that is win 200 compatible, I guess that will work in xp, but do I have any other choices? Like Nero?

I'm partial to Nero Paul. . I've been using it for quite a while now and have never liked Adaptec in comparison, but I think that's just a matter of opinion.

nero is the best, no question about it.

CDRWIN is good too for buring .bin files I don't know about .bun lol, try both progs, but nero is by far the best.

Paul - You can use Wavelab, but you would have to use CD-R's. AFAIK Wavelab doesn't support packet writing which you need to write to a CD-RW.

You might be able to use to it write to a CD-RW treating it as if it were a CD-R. The limitation is you wouldn't be able to move/delete individual files. You would only be able to re-write the entire CD. That might work, though, if you're only interested in backing up bundle files - since you would only have the one file on the disk anyway.

Just so you know, winXP does burn cd's on it's own, without software. I still like Nero better though.

Don't even install that Adaptec shit on your system. It fucks with everything and tries to "own" everything audio related. The same goes for any of the Real products. They're the absolute worst. I couldn't even remove it completely from the registry. I had to reformat and reinstall my OS to get rid of that evil piece of shit Real One.

I have been using Adaptec for years and quite frankly prefer it over Nero. My computer at work has Nero and I find it quite plain and not as well laid out as Easy CD Creator Pro.

Barefoot's comment about Adaptec taking over everything audio related makes no sense whatsoever. I have always done full installs and it does not resemble Real products in any way whatsoever as far as taking over my system.

Erichenryus, how do I burn direct to my CD using xp? I have a re-writable cd in my lap top and run xp.

Acidrock, I feel a bit of a pratt too cos I have used Easy Cd Creater 3.5 for years in my win 98 DAW with no difficulties or coasters created (apart from the music I record on them )

Barefoot, I agree with you, Real player stuff is awful, I have banished that from my system long time ago, now I have upgraded my windows media player, all that has gone along with winamp (which I quite liked).

Dachay, what I want to do is to copy all my Sonar tracks as a .bun file so I can move my Sonar work-in-progress from DAW to lap-top and back again. As you know, I work away from home during the week so doing some work on my weekend recordings during the week, on my lap-top would be helpful to me. I wouldn't get withdrawl symptoms either

Here's my story (and I'm sticking to it)....
Had Win98SE on my comp. Got a burner that came with EZ CD Creator 3.5.
Everything worked fine, but I was told Nero was better. So I loaded Nero. Still no probs. My system would let me use either.
I upgraded to XP an the shit hit the fan. I was directed to the Roxio website where I was informed that I MUST upgrade to EZ CD Creator 5 and pay $29 for it. Well gee, no thank you. I'll just use Nero. Well there was a bit of a problem - I kept getting error messages ("your computer has recovered from a serious error")and whenever I rebooted the PC, I was directed to two problem files - EZ CD Creator .ini files or some such, so I decided to uninstall Adaptec. Couldn't do it - could not get rid of the files. Got my Microsoft certified friend to try to eliminate it from the system. He told me the only way I could do this was to upgrade Adaptec and then uninstall it in order to use Nero. Well what's the point?

So I went and got EZ CD Creator 5. No, I didn't pay for it. My first copy was legit, which led to a F*ck up of my system, so maybe I MUST use it to maintain the integrity of my system, but I'm not happy about it. And I'll be damned if I'm gonna pay for it.

Chuck, thats an astonishing story and a warning to us all. Roxio must know that they are trying to blackmail people into the upgrade, kind of, "pay for the upgrade or we'll f**k your system and make sure none of our competitors will put their software on your system either". And we thought m/soft were the baddies? Thanks for the warning, looks like Nero for me then.

First of all, version 3.5 is a very old version of the Adaptec software. At the time of the launch of XP, Roxio was already working with 5.

This is no different than any other software manufacturer and I really don't see any point to your complaints. It is as if you were using something like Windows 3.1 and expecting a free upgrade to XP...

Roxio flat out stated that any previous version before 5 would not work with XP on their website, not to mention that XP itself warns you of the incompatabilities before the installation, so why did you even try it in the first place?

Fair point Brzillian but that does not excuse Roxio from having a software product that makes it impossible to uninstall unless you pay for an upgrade. M/soft doesn't stop you uninstalling say, win 98 to put Linux on your machine. Thats pretty poor ethics, imho.

No. Wrong.

Here's the analogy:
Going by your logic, hypothetically, I have Cakewalk PA9 on my PC under Win98SE.
I upgrade the OS to WinXP. I then decide that I want to use Cubase. Cubase doesn't work. I surmise that it has something to do with the fact that PA9 is still on my system, so I decide to uninstall PA9. For some reason, PA9 does not uninstall properly, so I have to upgrade to Sonar....but I wanted to use Cubase. In the meantime this problem causes my computer to give me nasty error messages and not reboot properly. So, no Cubase until I upgrade to Sonar.

Your conclusion: Somehow this is MY fault.

First of all, I didn't get the email Roxio sent about this. Maybe I was out when they phoned.

As far as XP warning me...why should I have cared, I had Nero and Pyro on the system. I should have been able to make one of them my default burner software but I was unable - as was my Microsoft certified friend, who has probably forgotten more about this stuff than you or I will ever know.

I had a guy over my house, a lot more qualified than you trying to fix this crap (who incidently helped me build a near-perfect DAW) and he never once came close to laying this at MY feet.
