24bit stereo recording probs

Hello,

Well my last upgrade to XP has now entered it's second month of downtime.

I have yet to get my multitrack software (ntrack) to settle down. I'm getting an offending signal that causes uncontrollable clip whenever I bring inputs up to level when recording 24bit stereo mode.

Here's a sample of the offending signal.

I've tried everything except reinstalling my OS..... so that is my question.

I'm not sure the tech that installed it knew that the onboard sound had been disabled in the BIOs and that my CDROM was also disabled for audio. Could not knowing these two facts cause an incorrect insallation causing some audio/settings conflict? I've checked the device manager/hardware profiles and it shows all devices (including legacy audio/video) working properly with no conflicts, but onboard legacy is disabled.

If I should decide to reinstall I would like to do it myself.....what are the odds? Ha!

Is there a tutorial on reinstalling XP or would some kind person out there to walk the through it?

Thanks,
Rusty K

Which audio interface are you using?

I'd start at the manufacturers site to find any issues with XP or other hardware.

Or in the line of troubleshooting try other software, download cool edit's demo.

I've had it!

Ok so I couldn't record...so I thought instead of wasting more time I could at least do some mixing. Yeah right this program let me do an hour or so then it's starts hanging.

I'm actively looking for alternatives. For the money and time I've spent upgrading. RAM, Hardrives, Operating systems I could have purchased a program that works. And all the damn tweaking to make this program run. All my other programs are fine it's just this one.

There comes a time to cut ones losses.

It still sounds like a sound card/latencey problem to me , Rusty.
What sound card are you using?

My XP is running flawlessly.

Hi Michael,

Yes XP runs soooo smooth compared to ME which is what I was using.

I was on the phone with my soundcard mfg, LynxOne, twice yesterday. I downloaded an app to test the functionality of the soundcard. It recorded just fine.

Michael...what multitrack software are you using?
