Slip editing madness

OK.....
So I have a five bar audio clip, and I want to remove a one bar segment right in the middle. I use the cut tool to cut the clip right before and after that section I want to remove, and I delete it. I now have two clips, each two bars, with a one bar gap between them.
But I noticed something that seems to be causing this file to lock up:
If I slip edit the end of the first new clip and drag it forward over the section I just deleted, it's still there, along with the entire contents of the second clip as well! So in other words, if I deleted the second 2 bar clip and slip edited the first, dragging it all the way forward, I would end up right back where I started, with a 5 bar clip, deleted section and all! Conversly, I could delete the first 2 bar clip and slip edit the front edge of the second 2 bar clip, dragging it backward, and end up right where I started, with my original 5 bar clip.

So...basically, when I'm cutting my clip, what SONAR is giving me is not two smaller clips with the middle bar gone, but two of my original clips that have been slip-edited to remove the middle section. Huh? Why won't SONAR just forget the section I'm trying to cut out? Why won't it give me two smaller clips with only the content I want? Is this what is supposed to happen? Has anyone actually been able to follow this post?

If you have, here's something even stranger: after cutting out the middle bar and creating the two- two bar clips, the "event" view still shows only one event for that track, even though there are now two. In some cases, the "event" window won't even show any events at all!

Believe me, I was cursing slip editing when I moved to Sonar.

Just give it time and when you realise what you can do with it life will never be the same.

Well, that may not be much use to you now if you've got a busy schedule there in the studio. Try and get your head round what you can now do. No need to worry about ultra precise cuts or copies and the possibility to make loops that cross fade perfectly into each other. I haven't used Sound Forge in months and I used to spend hours daily in it.

Don't get me wrong...... I love slip editing.

It's just that I have a certain project that for some strange reason is locking up. I simply cannot figure out why! I just wanted to see if the phenomenon I described earlier is normal.

I have many, many other similar projects that play back on my machine just fine.

I'm VERY familiar with Cakewalk and SONAR, so unless I'm absolutely missing something, which I doubt, it's not a newbie type problem. There is some kind of glich going on with this file that is giving me major headaches!

For example: there are several tracks full of audio clips for which the "event" window display no events at all. There are certian, repeatable parts of the song where audio playback "stutters" and "gurgles" and then stops; in fact one is in the first bar of the song while nothing is playing ( I always give my projects a 1 bar cushion at the beginning). I'm wondering if it's related to volume envelopes, because there are "zipper" noises at some of the change points.

I have even tried creating a new file and pasting all the .wav's into it, but whatever the problem is followed the .wav's.

I'm pulling my hair out on this one!

Sonar uses non-destructive editing. When you cut a clip and delete the middle, you are really not deleting anything. You just have two separate slip-edited clips (as you have found out).

If you want to make this permanent, you need to Apply Trimming. AFTER you "apply trimming" WYSIWYG. If other words, if you now uncover the right end of the first clip, nothing will be there. So BE CAREFUL.

And one more strange thing....

If I arm any track for recording, the entire song plays through just fine.
