help with an old school Marantz

I just found a Marantz PMD 220, in my attic. I do alot of home recordings, and I really want to use this thing. The problem I'm having is this:
I can't record. Playback works, and the machine, is in pretty good condition for the tank that it is. I'm thinking it might be the built in condensor mic. It's not picking up anything, but I also used the mic input they had on the side with an external mic. No luck there either. I'm powering it right now with an adapter I bought at Radio Shack, because the Marantz uses 6 volts, instead of the standard 9. I've had problems in the past with that adapter, halfway working with my Pignose amp. But I don't know.
What I'm looking for, is if someone can tell me if the adapter will make that much of a difference, or if people can still repair these things. Thanks.

Yo Neal:

People still repair anything -- just check it out on the net. I have this Benjamin Air rifle, a real old one. There are still folks out there who repair air rifles.

Now to your Marantz, whatever it is, I'm not sure. But, it would not be cost effective to repair something that is obsolete, unless you are a person determined to keep that unit going.

So, do whatever you feel makes you happy because being happy is not stress and elimination of stress is a GOOD THING>
