an internet band production

This tune was a for a CD project called Deja Vu. The contributers all voted on a set of lyrics. Then we all proceded to put our own music to the same set of words. Instead of collaborating via internet or snail mail, I packed up my guitar and drove to Boise, Idaho to lay the tracks. Suffice it to say, we drank a lot and recorded very little... but the results turned out pretty well considering. The drummer's father showed up and we had him improvise some keys for us.

oh.. and the kick mic was made from a set of sony walkman headphones... seriously!

Cool

good tune.. I like the singers voice.. I'll leave out my complaints because of the coolness of the collab.. that's a great story..

this reminds me a bit of Hootie and the Blowfish.. I liked it..

Man what a great song!
Definitly a sweet Rocky Mountain tune.
Melody and writing were very moving.

Reminds me of some of the early seventy's greats, some of my favorites.
You know like,Wildfire,Brandy, with a touch of the Band in there.

Who's singing,his voice is awesome.

Really great job for a collaboration.
I enjoyed it very much,thanks!

Hey JR,
.....I enjoy the stories involved w/ getting these collabs to work almost as much as the music that results. They are alot of work, and this one is an example of why they are so worthwhile.
Great job JR, I enjoyed this alot.

Gotta listen on cans for now...

This makes me wanna go fly fishing...

Nice collaboration......I can't comment on mix for reasons above...

Only thing I did notice git left and git right aren't always working well together rhythmically. Might examine that, but it's not that noticable.

Nice song!

Thanks for the comments, everyone.

The music was written by my buddy Kevin. He's got a great voice... probably the result of a life of hard partying. I've never partied so hard in my life! and in Boise, Idaho of all places....

I should also note that everything was recorded to 1/2" tascam. The vocals and guitars were mic'd with a c3000 and drums were mic'd with cheapo carvin condensors overhead, 57 on the snare, and the ultra-custom and ultra rare sony walkman headphone bass drum mic.

I only did the fingerstyle guitar stuff... error ridden and all. I also hit play and record for the acoustic strum parts and the vocals. The drummer did the rest as well as lay down the bass line. The singer also did the strum acoustic and strum electric.

If I can get permission, I might post the othe versions of the song that the other collaborators did. They were all completely different... some rock, some oldies sounding, some folkie, etc. It was a very interesting project with interesting results. I'd like to see some more collaboration projects from this site!

Trippy and cool and authentic and I love it. You'll laugh maybe, but I've spent a ton of time over the past several months, whenever I get a kit set up, trying to record different kick samples, and I haven't recorded anything yet that sounds that cool.

Nice one JR, the chorus had a "cat stevens" vibe to it for me. Great tune I certianly enjoyed it!

Cool changes in a song like this, JR... unexpected major 7ths and stuff... don't hear that much in country-ish stuff. Timing must have been horrendously difficult to get right... it has a jam-band feel to it, as a result... dunno, because tightening it might ruin the feel. Drums do sound good... tho the crash cymbal sounds uh... like tin foil? (sorry, man... everything else is cool) Amazing result, there... fellow Chadster
