Anyone seen a hands-on review of the yamaha aw16g?

From my research, I believe that the yamaha aw16g DAW will suit my humble studio needs... and I'm ready to order one now.

But I'd like to see at least one in-depth (hands-on) product review, via the web or a magazine--or even from someone on this site--before dropping my dough.

I know that these units have been shipping now, but I've seen nothing in print. If you yourself have, could you please direct me to the place?

Thanks for any help! I'll buy dinner when you're next in Santa Barbara.

J.

Yo Jeff-FREE:

The 16 is about 1k less than the 2816 and even more from the 4416. However, I keep seeing promos for the 4416 with "call-in" for pricing. There are many words about all three units on this site. [whew]

As far as 16 bit goes, my 2816 will do 24 bit and 16 bit; however, my unit, as most of them I think, will not burn a CDR in 24 bit mode.

So, if 16 bit is still the standard in the industry, the 16 unit will probably do what you want. If it sounds as good as the 2816, you'll like it and, from what I've heard, it's supposed to be about as good. But, I did get a post from my post to Yamaha explaining why there was about a 1k difference in the units. You can check it out for yourself with Yamaha if you'd like

I'm in favor of the clinic as you will get to touch and examine the unit without putting down any cash.

I wonder if 32 bit CD's are in the future?

Sound on Sound reviewed the AW16G this month. I don't know what the availability of this mag is in Santa Barbara. You can read the article online if you're a subscriber, otherwise you'll have to wait 6 months. They gave the AW16G a good review BTW. One of the few cons was that it's 16 bit not 24.

Thanks for the help guys. I'll pick up "SOS" before I place my order, and dinner's on me if you get out west.

If you're interested, I just noticed that there's also a review in the new issue of "Guitarist" magazine.

Yamaha

Jeffee, I have been reviewing the BOSS BR-1180 and the KORG d12. Both units are in the same price range as the YAMAHA with simular features. Lots of info can be found on the KORG and ROLAND web sites. You might want to check these out. Good luck.
