CAD drum mic set...
http://www.brookmays.com/prod_disp.asp?itemnum=PMP421C
Are these mics of quality? I haven't heard of this company until today actually. But they seem pretty nice. I know the price on that page is outrageous and you can get that set for A LOT cheaper...I am wondering most about the KBM412... I was originally going to get an AT PRO25 for kick drum, but this set came along and I changed my mind. this mic has a better frequency response so I assumed it could be a better mic. Anyone try any of these mics? The tom mics any good? My setup will be: Shure SM57 - Snare CAD KBM412 - Bass Drum CAD TSM 411 - Centered between 2 rack toms CAD TSM 411 - Floor Tom CAD ICM417 - Centered overhead (until I can get some other overheads) Would this be a decent setup? |

has anyone actually heard these? I've actually got them now but have been unable to use them. I am mainly wondering about the bass drum mics. It by itself is like $140, so I hope it's pretty good.

I use those! I have the kit with the 3 tom mics, and bass mic, no overheads. They work quite well for only setting me back 200 bucks or something. If you want a sound sample of them in action let me know and I'll fire something up for you and put it on nowhere.

For $300 I got BD mic, 2 OH, and 4tom/snare mics.....as far as the snare, get somthing else, but for $300 you can't beat the sound and ability to mic each drum. And the case seals the deal, cause if you show up to a gig with a metal LOCKABLE case just for your drum mics, you are ALREADY the shiznit:-) For the money they're the best you can get, but you can spend more and do a lot better of course.

I've got the set withe the 4 snare/tom mics, the 2 overheads, and the bass mic.
I've never used the overheads-I've got 012's for that. The snare/tom mics are OK, not great. They sound pretty good on the snare, but seem to lack a little of the "crack" that I like. They're alright on the toms...tuning of the kit is crucial with these, because they won't help you any. I've heard better kick mics, but it might be a placement or room issue for me. The reviews I've read of this kick mic have generally been pretty good, with the caveat that you need to use a liberal amount of EQ on the signal if you don't place the mic perfectly... Overall...worth what I paid. |
