Recording Gear Suggestions- Lots

I'm going to leave this completely open and only state gear I need and price ranges.

Recording Interface to computer $500; hear about the C-Port but don't know.

Monitors $300-$400

Headphones I was thinking the ATH-m30s I believe by Audio-Technica there were I think $70 new. Better suggestions and price?? (I'm going to get headphones first 'til I can get the monitors, so they will be pretty key for the first bit of mixing and what not)

Mixer $200-$300

and any other things I may be overlooking or I just didn't include 'cause maybe I have or what not.

Mics I'm not worried about.

Right now only recording plans is myself and my current project I'm getting up which is right now me on guitar(s) and bass, and vocals and then the lead vocalist. Though I only see it expanding to at MOST:
two guitars, 1 bass, drums, two vocals, MAYBE, big maybe-keyboards.

I'm not looking for great recording just something good even if it is apparent it's on a very tight ass budget.

Any help would be great, if there a really big quality gap but a not too huge in price and will require me spanning even more dollars of dough then let me know, 'cause I can be patient if I have to. I'm just kinda impatient to get the real basics set out.

and and All help would be great, and soon would be best.
Thanks for all help, there's a lot of that running around here.

Thanks again!

_Mike

Couple of questions first.

Are you going to record live drums and amplified guitars or other loud instruments?

If yes, are going to track everything in one place or do you need a mobile system?

If you prefer mobile, I'd recommend a used Fostex Vf-16 standalone digital multitracker and an inexpensive Adat only soundcard for the recording equipment. This combo should not cost considerable much more than a 8 channel soundcard and a suitable analog mixer and it enables you to track on location 8 tracks at a time with the Fostex and transfer tracks between computer and recorder with minimal effort for mixdown on computer. Thanks to it's Adat interface the Fostex can also be used as an analog front end for computer based system.

Thanks for the response

Drums will be for the time being computer generated or drum machine, but will be live when we get a real drummer.

Amplified guitars is a big yes. Got a couple of Shure SM-57s right now for mics and some audio tecnica one not sure what model it is. And a few other mics which I'm not sure of the brand one's really yuck, the others pretty good.

I'm not looking for a mobile system.
All that's planned for recording is for it to remain at my house to make demos and what not. And when I can continuelly upgrade, better and better albums.

I said
"I'm not looking for great recording just something good even if it is apparent it's on a very tight ass budget."

But I do want to take this more serious than that. I just want a very basic build right now which I can do something with and expand upon and upgrade and time and money permits.

Thanks

_Mike
