Studio Projects Small Diaphragm Condensor Mics

I would like to know whats going on with these mystic mics that I saw references to on another bbs?

Im probably will be done with my garage studio space by Christmas and might be looking again for a SDC. I was going to get a 603, but maybe Ill wait if something new is within the pre Holiday horizon

I bet we can make a small diaphragm model of which I don't have to work on every single damn one of them before they go out the door...
Cheaper than the 603 - no way.
Better than the 603 - Yes. Much better all around.
The C4 small diaphragm sets and the LSD-2 LD stereo mic will be the final mics in the C-series for Studio Projects. Both models will be available before the year is out.
SoMm: Your garage studio space will definitely be done before mine will. I'm happy for you. I have to tear down the old garage and build from the ground up. Still going through permit process with Culver City...No studio sucks. All my stuff is in road cases. Thank God for VS recorders.

all my shit is in cases too. im working on the recording room and when its done...i'll FINALLY be able to record.

im looking forward to the small diaphrame mics. I am completely satisfied with the quality/value of the C series (best i can remember since my shit has been stored for so long)....and judging by that i know you guys are gonna put out a quality product at a great price.

for my next purchase i can't decide whether to get a RNC and a vtb1 preamp or just a RNMP

i really need a good compressor (not optical) but can't afford to invest in the RNMP and the RNC right now cause drywall, lumber, and insulation for the studio have damn near broke me...

i wish i could try out the studio projects mic pre before buying

i might could swing that and the RNC

The C4's will street about $299.99 for the matched pair. It will include the C4 body with a pad and a Hi-Pass filter, two shock mounts, and two clips, two foam screens and a road case.

The heads are interchangable with Omni and Cardioid being the first two heads available. We will see how much call we get for others because it is expensive to stock a ton of heads if they do not sell.

They sound great so far. Brent did a great job. Just wait until you guys see the LSD-2. That mic will really fuck you up!

What about single C4, $149,99?

Thanks for the Info

I have an original VS-880 with the VFX-1 card that I bought in 1998. The machine has yet to ever glitch on me. The funny thing is that when I first bought it and it was relatively new on the market, I didn't think it was half as amazing as I do now. The thing travels with me wherever I go.

In my big gig days, I played in a northwest jam band called the Joint Chiefs. My playing now is mostly guitar bass and percussion based and my big influences are Jazz, African soukous, Beatles, Grateful Dead. For a little while, I got into programming trance and doing some electronic stuff, but I kind of drifted back out of it and mostly just play my $20.00 nylon string out on the porch.
I haven't had a chance to jam with Alan yet, but I've heard him play guitar: He rips.
How 'bout you MrZekeMon?

After being dubbed thusly, I should say I'm the Reggae mon.

But...

I grew up in the seventies, and I like classic Rock. I also am in to Blues and Country. Some Alternative. I never have cared much for Jazz, but just recently I've really started to groove on it. There's a station here that I've been listening to that plays Smooooooooth Jazz.

My influences are bands like Boston, Pink Floyd, Eagles, Rush, all flavors of southern rock and cawntry. I play guitar.

I've done a little bit of writing, which I need to do more of. I tend to be lazy. A grammy winning writer told me once that I have talent, but she said I need to write every day. She said that's what writers do, they write every day. I write once in a blue moon when I feel inspired. She said you get inspired more often when you exercise your talent.

Sorry, but no single units on the C4's. You can always sell one of them off if you want, but to get the pricing we needed, we had to commit to the quantity. Believe me, we made sure the quality and features were right where they needed to be so they will sell.

I am sure Harvey and a few others will have a new favorite SD mic soon. As for the registration cards, no problems, just save your receipt. In fact, we are thinking of making all Studio Projects products to now come with a limited Lifetime Warrantee. Since we fix all them for free anyway, we might as well offer a Lifetime Warrantee to the original purchaser. We will need time to redo the manual and registration card, but that will be another Studio Projects first…

Hmmm. More info on the high-pass filter, please? Where does the rolloff start, and how steep?

Tube,

They come with your choice of Cardioid or Omni capsules. You can order an additional set of capsules for a retail of $100.00, and we will look at bringing out other pattern capsules in 2003.

I know you and Chessrock want more information, but to be very honest, I do not know where Brent has set the roll off. I have been busy on the SP-828, and the upcoming VTB-2, so I am a little bit removed, but e-mail brent at brent@pmiaudio.com and he will be happy to answer yours and Chessrock's questions.

I think a very useful bass rolloff for an accoustic guitar mic would actually start out around 400 hz and gradually rolloff more and more as it makes it's way to 80, where everything completely drops.

I know this sounds pretty extreme, and I'll likely never see a mic with this feature in my lifetime. But this curve, to me, is generally what is called for when close-micing most accoustic guitars. And telling someone in a home studio with home-studio accoustics to back the mics off isn't always the best option.

I suppose this probably belongs in your designing the future forum. Thanks for the tip. I'll email Brent.

Wow! that roll off starts at 550HZ. That's pretty aggressive. Should be interesting.
