problems w/ cakewalk

hey, if anyone could help me w/ this it would greatly reduce some of my frustration. I have cakewalk pro audio 9, and i used to have pro audio 8- I've had the same problem with both of these programs. Almost every time I exit out of the program after working on a song a blue screen will pop up with these words- an illegal operation has occurred this is a fatal error and this program will be terminated.- then the screen wil back out like it is tryin to shut down windows and then it will freeze up in the shut down windows mode and will not turn off, and the only thing you can do to turn off the computer is turn it off manually. My last computer steadily got worse, and eventuall was just about inoperable, so I need to fix the problem now before it destroys my new computer.... please if anyone can help me!!!

It could be your OS, or low ammounts of ram. I never had any problems with PA9 (and THAT was running on windows 95..eeeek!....ticking bomb) Now I run Sonar 2.0 via Windows XP Pro....good times!

You would probably get more results if you posted the issue in the cakewalk forum (if you haven't already.)

The problem is NOT your Cakewalk. It's your WINDOWS. What version ? 95 ? 98 ? ME ? They lack alot of bugs. Use WinXP if you can afford.

This kind of experience you are having drove me to go out and get a dedicated
digital recording workstation.
If you do have enough CPU power,
try Windows 2000 (I dunno about XP)
as it is a lot more stable than 95/98 BUT
it's still not rock solid.
A freind of mine spent far too much time/money on the windows route, and finally got a dedicated machine as well.
For him (running a recording studio business) explaining to the guitar player that Cakewalk just um.. hiccuped and ate
that beatiful solo happened too many times.
Some people seem to be able to get Cakewalk running, remove all "non-music" software, only install Cakewalk, buy lots of ram, fastest machine you can stand etc. This all helps but never seems to get 100% there..

I used to get this a lot with PA9 under Win98SE. Upgrade to Sonar and Win2k. PA9 is not a serious audio program IMHO, and Windows 2000 is very stable and streamlined to me. I'm not sold on XP. Sorry.

Umh... Seems like I infected by Clemie Virus.
I mean They have a lot of bugs. Win 2000 would be cool.
