Cheap headphones for multiple uses

I Need a set of cheap but decent headphones for my brother. Hes doing a media course in college and he needs a decent pair of headphones for working, as well as listening to music and everything else.

Looking for something around 100 Canadian, i guess thats like, 60-65 US?

I have a pair of Sony MDR-V500's that are pretty good, and he doesn't mind them, but is there anything better in the same price range?

thanks, hes buying tomorrow so i thought i'd try to get as much info as possible

oh come on, i know you know something about this.

Right now, he can either get the AKG k55's, which are apparantly a good value, or he can get the Sony MDR V500's.

the akgs ate 40 dollars, and the song's are 100 dollors

One thing he said was that the akg's seemed to be lacking in bass a bit, and the sales person said that may be because hes going directly out of a cd player (hahaha, sounds like bull to me).

Should he stay away from the AKG's like the plague? I don't know about them, are they known for being terrible?

Any speedy responses would be greatly apriciated, hes actually at the store THIS SECOND, but he might just go back tomorrow, or buy the akg's now, if he can return them if they aren't good.
THAKNS!

240's?
the ones he just picked up to try out were the k55's
they're really cheap, and cheap is his budget, they were 40 bucks canadian.
hes gonna a/b them to my set of sony mdr-v500's, and he might try out a pair of 90 dollar canadian sennheisers.

but im guessing the 240's are too much money.

OUCH!
these AKG K55's sound terrible! im not kidding these are the WORST headphones i've ever heard
and you can't just say thats my opinion, and everyone likes different sounds, cause this is honestly terrible
my sony's sound at least 10x better.

Im going to get my brother to take these AKG's back tomorrow, and im gonna go down with him and A/B a set slightly more expensive Sennheisers with my sony's.

any more info?

any other brandS?

The 240's are probably too expensive, you may want to look at AKG 301's.....they sound pretty good in comparison (I've got both) and they're louder, and the 301's might be in his budget.

Leeking will become famous soon enough
SInce you're in Canada(I love that place!) check out Yorkville headphones. They are pretty decent and can be pretty cheap esp. during promotional period.
