Pod Pro vrs Pod regular...

Ok...
Does anyone know what the difference is between a Pod PRO(rackmount) and a regular little POD that sits on the ground(nonrackmount)? There is a huge price difference but from what I can tell the rackmount doesnt have anything extra...What gives?

Pro has more I/O options. It has XLR ins and outs, AES/EBU possibly S/PDIF. Can recall too many other differences though... You might check the line 6 website.

The POD Pro also has an effects loop, which is a very good feature to have. The Pro has an internal power supply and the other has an external wall wart-type.

POD Pro (I own one)has AES/EBU and S/PDIF outs w/ 44.1 khz operation, word clock, etc. It has a -10dBV effects loop for re-amping, and dual mode XLR outs. With a line level shifter, such as EBTECH LLS-2, the unprocessed guitar out makes an excellent DI.
It also has tone transfer, so you can export custom settings to any other POD or compatible Line6 amp. If you're going into your board in digital format, or you just want a good DI for bass, etc., it's worth the extra money. Besides, in a rack, the kids won't step on it! Hope this helps.-Richie

Kidney Bean's where it's at. I'll probably get flamed here, but I haven't found all the xtra I/O's make that big a difference. The sound quality using the 1/4" outs is pretty much the same. It's not just me either; I had a client yesterday who owns the pro unit. He left it in the box after hearing/seeing the simplicity of the bean. If all you need is modeling/effects, save your $$. MHO of course.

Arrow

Micheal is right here,

To be perfectly honest - there's NO actual SOUND difference between the two units...

However, the PRO does have 24 bit instead of 20 on the POD 2.3....and a SPDIF digital I/O which does offer a somewhat quieter signal when recording in the studio environment...

But, for shear tone, effects, etc...they are identical....

oh, I did forget to mention................

The new Rocktron Replitone MP Modelling amp rack unit is supposed to be really good....my local Long & Mcquade music store here in Toronto has ordered one for me to DEMO (nice folks that they are - so I'm looking forward to it

Actually, Rocktron invented the "modelling amp" about 15 years ago....and not Line6, like everyone is lead to believe....and the rest of their gear is pretty damn good....so I'm expecting this puppy to be up to that standard too.

...plus it costs only $399 USD online, which is considerably cheaper than the POD Pro at $599 USD, or so....

With the Replitone MP there are more effects capabilities wereby one can mix n match delay, reverb, chorus, flanger, wah, phaser, trem, etc....far more so than with the POD units....

I've read a few reviews, and by all accounts the amp 'tones' are real close,

so I'll let ya know SOON, when I've had a chance to put it through the paces.....

IF you want to hear a couple of tunes where I used the POD 2.3 on all guitar tracks....click onto the link below...and listen
to some of my recent projects like: "Nothing Fancy" "Sunrise in Nueiba" or "From Pie De La Cuesta With love"......

http://www.acidplanet.com/Lounge/Art...ArtistID=78884

The POD units DO indeed sound good (especially the Mod High Gain - Soldano overdrive setting - I love and use that quite a bit ....and the "clean" tones are good as well, BUT, in general...I find not a lot of variation between the ROCK sounds....the tones are not really that versatile - no matter how ya play/tweak the thing....

Hope this bit of info helps,

regards,

KEV

Hey Kev, it seems that almost EVERYONE that has used or owned the POD, likes the Soldano (Mod hi gain) the best...

Oh, have you checked my link yet? I made a thread in the Guitar & bass forum. I got 2 short clips with the Genesis 3 sounds. It's thrash metal, but I'll soon add some blues, rock and surf stuff.
