Thumbs down Presonus Blue Tube question

Well I grabbed this piece cause it was affordable and I didn't have a preamp but the hiss that is coming out of this makes me think something is wrong with it or the mixer or the setup..something...maybe its just ass

I am running it thru a behringer eurorack that has built in crappy pre amps...I turned the gain off on the mixer...

I placed it as far away from anything electrical as I could and I am using xlr cables to connect the mic to the pre to the mixer...

Any help would be greatly appreciated...

thanks Geoff

Hard to say from your post how loud the hissing is, but I used to have one of these units (since upgraded) and I didn't really have any distracting hiss. I tracked into a Roland VS 880 at the time (also w/ sucky pres, so those were all the way off), and as long as the "drive" knob was fairly low, I could turn up the "gain" (the clean volume one, I may have the terminology confused) quite high and get a reasonable sound. If you try this and it still hisses, maybe it's your mixer, even the output section (Behringer mixers are not known for their quality). Or maybe a defective Blue Tube unit? I'd suspect the mixer first.

Don't plug it into the Mixer! Go mic->Blue Tube->Recorder. Not sure what your setup is, but you should be able to get this to work. Even if the mixer's gain is all the way down, the signal is still going through the mixer pre's circuit. I don't have your mixer or pre, but this is general advice. Good luck!

I like my Blue Tube. Doesn't make much noise unless I try to crank it too hard. Just like any other amp.

I have a blue digitube. It seemed a little "hissy" when I first started using it, but only because I wasn't used to outboard pre's. It's taken a little practice and experimentation to understand and appreciate what to expect from different pre's. And I'm STILL learning. It may just take some getting used to.

why are you running the bluetube into a mixer? are you submixing....cutting the mixer out of the audio chain may reduce some of the noise..

also - understand the bluetube's controls - you can take the tube completely out of the equation by turning the 'drive' down and only using the 'gain' for level (gain controls the solid-state portion of the bluetube). The tube adds most of the noise...I use the tube minimally to add a little color (unless I'm using the bluetube as a DI for bass/guitar - in which case I 'drive' the signal liberally)
