tracks "bleeding"

hey kool kats,

i've been doing some multi-track recording in cubase VST/32, and have a bit of a conundrum...

i'm laying down the tracks one at a time, for ex. i'll do a bass track first, then rhythm, then lead, then vocals, etc... what I'm finding is that only my first track is clean, and the following ones have muted previous tracks in the background... in my ex. above, my rhythm track has bass in it, my lead track has bass and rhythm, and my vocal track has all of the above... the result is that when i'm adjusting levels, i'm not able to control the indiv. tracks as well as i'd like...

any advice? is there a way to isolate my tracks so that they're not getting "bled" into...

If you are using a Soundblaster/Audigy card, or the like, then check out your soundcard settings in your soundcard control panel. If you are recording "what you hear" or something similar, then that will explain why you are recording the track you want to record, plus the tracks that you intended to simply monitor.
