welcome to the problem... we want our target audience and we want them all now!!

Try MP3.com for starters... frankly, a website and word of mouth is still the best method. My MP3.com page for www.the-boogiemen.com has been visited only a handful of times... There are so many bands/projects/people producing nowadays it's next to impossible to stand out from the crowd.

When looked at realistically, you mind as well quit now... but, like me and so many others, you have a desire to be heard... so plug on...

i procrastinated for the longest time, but now.....

I'm a tight wad financially and don't like to spend money, but I broke down and got some stuff from www.thebuzzfactor.com and now I feel like I got so much more power and motivation to market all this great music I have.....check it out.........there's so many great ways to get the tunes out there.....all you need is an education and it's not very expensive.......best of luck

My main peice of advice is to forget about lables as they arn't interested. You can spend thousands of dollars mailing to labels and I will guarantee that it is the worst return for your money.

make a decient demo and a good album and spend all of your money on mailing the demo to venues and book book book and write new material...

" Gettin the word out... "

Book the largest hall in your town. Then, at the end of the performance, kill your lead singer RIGHT ON STAGE! Guaranteed to get you the BUZZ.
But be aware:
the auditions for a new lead singer will be very difficult.

Here's another idea-
You and your band take over the local rock radio station at gunpoint and force them to play your demo on the air. I saw that in a movie once, and it worked really well.

no wonder I didn't win the songwriting contest at the MN Folk Festival...

I agree about record labels. It's like signing contracting your soul out to the mob.
Be your own label.
Number one rule is- don't spam. People think you're a desparate loser if you spam all over the place in newsgroups.
Find out what people who would like your stuff would dig and find creative ways to tell them about it.
If you have sexual music maybe your fans would dig porn-then subtly get your URL into those sites- either by emailing the webmaster to post a link or simply by signing the guestbook.
If you're in a metal band, maybe your fans like horror fiction or fantasy. Use this to create an edge.
Networking is your best tool. Get to know other artists in your genre and get your music reviewed in as many online and print 'zines as possible.
