Best layout for a control/tracking bedroom studio

Hi,

I am one of those less fortunate who has a control/tracking bedroom studio.

Here's is my current layout:

I am happy with this setup cos:
1. The monitors are facing away from the mic, which enables me to listen to the sound of the mic before recording it.
2. My monitors are away from walls, which is good... I think.
3. My room is pretty full of stuffs, which makes the room pretty dead.

Things I don't like:
1. The desk in the middle of the room makes the room feels small.
2. Too much stuffs in the room makes it looks messy.
3. The monitors are pretty near the back wall. (near the door)

Here's my proposed setup:

thing I like about this setup:
1. The room will look bigger, more spacious.
2. The wall facing the monitors is further away.

Things I don;t like:
1. The monitors are facing the mic, will cause feedback when I try to listen to the sound of the mic.
2. The right monitor will be in a corner of the room, wonder if a thick matress at the side wall will help?

What do you guys think? Please share your experience and advise.

Thanks!
Leeking

yes, I understand.

I am using headphone while tracking...

but what I really want is to listen and tweak the signals through monitors first before actually recording them.....

I would really hate to resort to tweaking sound with headphone (I don;t have super nice headphone to start with. )

Thanks!

Get rid of those mattresses and build yourself some sound absorption panels and maybe a couple of gobos. The panels will give you better acoustics and the gobos can be used to isolate your mic from your monitors. With your monitors against the wall you'll want to place some absorption behind them as well. Search the site on this topic as I think there was a thread awhile back discussing placement of monitors against a wall like you're doing. If you can't find absorber and gobo designs let me know and I can link you to them.

I have change my layout as the proposed plan...

things are looking good, now my studio looks bigger(spacious) and more "pro"

Thanks for the advise on gobos, I'll look into that...

I listen to some songs from the monitors, and they sounded pretty good.... I'll check out issues about monitor placement as well....

Thanks!
