simple audio file question

when recording audio direct into cubase, if I take the audio file, p[rocess it in, sya soundforge, then reimport it (under a different name) it's out of synch. I presume this is because when recording, cubase starts recording slightly before the L marker - is this value of pre-record the same as the playback pre-roll value set in the settings section?
