Recording VST instruments into waves

Probably a stupid question, but how do you do it.

Which version of Cubase are you using? It's spelled out quite clearly in the manual, but we'll need to know which version you're using in order to direct you to the proper page.

VST, SX, SL, Cubasis....

5.x, 1.02, ??

VST. I don't have the manual. I'm not new to cubase so if you can briefly just tell me where and how in about 2 sentences I will understand. I never use VST instruments in my recordings. I use all outboard equip.

Re-install your manual, for sure!! I personally find it SO helpful!! It's on the CD, and VST also comes with a printed version called "Getting Started." It's probably in a drawer somewhere.

Chris,
The manual is different things to different, I find it so bloody frustrating, it assumes you know what you are doing on a computer, if you are a computer fuckwit it's a horror show.
I have had cubasis VST for 2 years now and am still struggling with it.
I live in the middle of nowhere and if I want info I have to ring someone a couple of thousand kilometers away, try the people you got it from, they seem to lose interest if there is no sale to the phone call, and although I have learnt the most from Steinberg they care really a tech support.
So I will differ in opinion about the manual.
Clive

Manual p. 516-518. Explains very clearly, diagrams and everything.... Pay particular to pgph 1 on p. 516, as it mentions VST instruments specifically.

The manual has more than three pages on the subject. Why would I re-invent the wheel. If you don't have the manual or the disc, then record the number on your dongle. Call Steinberg, as they will have the serial number from the dongle registered in your name. They'll send you a replacement CD for a nominal fee.

All I need are the steps. Either you know it or you don't. I'm sure if you know it, you can explain it briefly. In less words than all those other responses you gave me. I'm not new to cubase. Briefly tell me.

I've typed only, like, 12 lines of text. How could this possibly replace three pages in the manual with diagrams?? Why don't you get Steinberg to look up your serial number and send you a new disc with the manual on it?

Chris

Cause maybe they don't support people who didn't buy it. Forget it. I'm sure I'll find someone who can explain in a few words. You making it more complicated than it is. Shoot recording parts is probably a three page explanation. But I'm sure I can explain it to someone WITH EXPERIENCE, in only one paragraph. Forget it. Thanx anyway. I'll ask someone else

You obviously see my point here. Why would I, having spent $500 Canadian on VST 3.6, and a further $200 on the upgrade to 5.1, be willing to help someone who obtained theirs without paying for it? Why would I pay $700, and then help someone navigate their way through it who didn't pay? That would make me a total idiot, yes?

Why would I, having spent, say, $15 000 on a car, help you to steal it? duh!

Chris

wordizbon....I'm gonna be neutral in this thing, but you have to know that ppl here have a "different" view on cracked programs...I'm not saying I blame you for using a crack, or I don't blame you, but you have to know that noone here will help a crack user..

Good luck man...

Use 'export audio tracks' function. This will convert all tracks that are activated into a wave (including all VST instruments). If you want to isolate a single VST instrument, just activate that one track, mute the others and hit export audio tracks - voila.

Good luck

Rocky Racoon Thanks for that in a nutshell explanation. It helped. Didn't know it would export VST instruments also. But I got it thanks to you.

ROKER1 I don't have a cracked version, just didn't want to go thru the bullshit that the other guy was trying to get me to do. I knew someone could explain it to me very quick and easy like Rocky Racoon did. You feel me. That other guy was defeating the purpose of this site. To get help. Not to run to the book.

wordizbon...I know I havn't taken part in any of this discussion, but you really have my curiosity now.

How do you have the program that you don't have a manual or the disk for, that steinberg won't help you get a manual or a disc because you said yourself "they don't help people who didn't pay for the program" (basically saying you didn't pay for it), yet the program is not an illeagle or "cracked" version? If it was a gift you should have the disc, the getting started book, and a copy of the manual on the disc. That's the only way I see getting Cubase without paying full price for it, unless it's a cracked version, or someone gave you a computer with a copy of it on it which is basically the same as stealing it.

You don't have to answer, but I just don't see how all this is possible. You shouldn't come down on Chris, he is just doing what any rightful Cubase owner would do. We all payed for the program and you'll find most here won't help someone who didn't. So what's the story?

Bass Master "K" since you all curious. I did pay for the program. But if you read properly. I said I didn't want to go thru the hassle of tech support or installing a manual. Read thoroughly before you ask questions. What is this an attack on Wordizbon? If Chris felt that way he should of just left it alone. Mind his BIZ. Thats all. No disrespect. Thats just how I feel.

I did read very thuroughly wordizbon. Did you type carefully?

You just have to understand, that even if you did mistype that whole sentance and you really paid for it, the thought of someone actually paying $800 for a program, and not installing the manual and not registering it, well it seems ludicrous.

That generally means one thing. It's cracked. If a kid came up and said "can you teach me to play guitar...I'll even pay you" and it becomes appearent that he stole the $800 guitar heis holding, I would turn him down, even for money. Yet it's funny how many people do the same thing with Cubase and expect us to help them for free.
