Mic Volume

I am trying to record voice and I can't hear the sound before I record. The mic is working fine and my meters show that the sound registers, but I would like to hear the sound through my speakers to set volume before I record. Can I do this? I am using a pc with windows XP and Sound Forge for recording.

Thanks

Delilah, the problem with monitoring with speakers is: sound into mic into amp, out of speaker, into mic=feedback loop.- not pretty. Learn to track with headphones- no feedback.-Richie
