fruity loops novice

Didn't know if this was the best place to post it, but here's a really elementary question about creating patterns in fruity loops.

I'm brand new to the program, but already I find it to be pretty darn expansive, and fairly user friendly at the same time. What I can't figure, though, is, how do you go about creating a pattern longer or shorter than the four beats set by default?
