Yorkville YSM1i vs. ART SLM-1 Studio Linear Monitors?

Does anyone know for sure if there are any physical or functional differences between the Yorkville YSM1i Contemporary Passive Studio Monitors and the Applied Research and Technology SLM-1 Studio Linear Monitors? Are they truly the exact same product, and are they manufactured at the same factory?

The reason I ask is that I have heard some praise about the Yorkville YSM1i Contemporary Passive Studio Monitors, and I am thinking of purchasing them. I am wondering if the ART SLM-1 Studio Linear Monitors are the exact same product, or if there is any difference at all? If i buy the ART SLM-1 Studio Linear Monitors instead, will I be getting the exact same quality product?

Here is the manufacturer listing of the Yorkville YSM1i Contemporary Passive Studio Monitors:

Here is the manufacturer listing of the ART SLM-1 Studio Linear Monitors:
http://www.artproaudio.com/products...p?PRODUCTID=101

By the way, just in case you are not aware, Yorkville does own ART (Applied Research & Technology): http://www.pro-music-news.com/html/02/e91208yo.htm

Does anyone have an opinion on the ART SLM-1 Studio Monitors & SLA-1 Power Amp Package, Product #605174, listed at www.Musiciansfriend.com for $399?

Also, is there a local retailer in the Los Angeles area who carries the Yorkville YSM1i Contemporary Passive Studio Monitors?

Please let me know - thank you.

Yep... they are exactly the same. I noticed the similarity and emailed Yorkville in Canada. One of their techs confirmed my suspicions. If you buy a pair of ART SLM-1, you have a pair of Yorkville YSM1i, only with a different brand on it. The SLM-1 are made in Canada in the same facility.

Funny too... just today I saw a brand new pair of ARTs go for something like $67.00 on eBay.

Probably due in part to the misguided trend to active monitors.

The Yorks and ARTs are excellent when paired with something like a Hafler P1500, Yamaha P2050, or even Alesis RA100 (not kidding). I wanted one pair of decent passive speakers that I could mix and match with a couple of my fav power amps, and I settled on these. Best bang for the buck.

The only real complaints I've heard is when people pair the monitors to the ART SLA-1 power amp... ironically it's not the best match.

P.S. Sorry for not getting back to you on this for 4 years and 4 months, but I had to sleep on it.
