Question drum machine tweeks?

Hi-
I love the sound of my drum machine dry in my mixes...only because I've ruined them before by over-tweaking.
Can anyone recommend a basic tweak to really enhance a great-sounding drum machine beat?
Or do you prefer to leave well-enough alone?

Gratefully,
Jeff Sanders

Cool

run the beat thru a Pa or good stereo speakers and mic the result....blend it in with the direct signal.......
