Pastor Brian is on a distinguished road
entry level Monitor speakers

Hi everyone-
I am looking for a pair of entry level monitor speakers...(appx 250-300$)
2 sets have jumped out...
M-audio SP-5B---299$
Samson resolv 65A--279$
Both are active, smaller, nearfield monitor systems

1. Anyone have experiences with these?
2. Any other brands, models, stores, to check out?
3. Any additional advice is welcomed!

PB

Greetings Pastor, how’s that whole holy thing working out for ya?

No comments on those specific monitors, but here’s my normal mantra:

The nature of loudspeakers makes them the weakest link in the audio chain. Turning electrical signals into acoustic waves is the most difficult task in audio. It’s also one of the most important factors in recording. Monitors are your ears to everything you do. Therefore, they and the room they are coupled to should be given a large portion of your attention, effort, and budget. Otherwise, you are just groping in the fog with all your fancy equipment.

I don’t know what your total budget is. You can only afford what you can afford. But, before you make a final decision on how much to spend on monitors, you might reconsider it in light of the facts I just stated.

Hey Brian. I recently got the M-Audio SP-8Bs on sale at Musician's Friend for $299. They may still have some on sale but you will have to call them. They don't have them listed online. They have been stuck in the back of the catalogue and it says quantities are limited. Anyway, they are very nice monitors. The opinion of them seems to be generally very good everywhere I have looked. The SP-5Bs have a pretty good reputation also it seems. The 8Bs will have a better bass response. I love mine. Very clear and detailed throughout the entire frequency range ( detailed enough for me anyway.) You'll get 63 different opinions on monitors if you ask 78 people. Many in here don't think anything for less than $1000.00 is any good. For 300 bucks, I doubt you'll beat them. I have no experience with any other monitors, so take my opinions with a grain of salt. "Salt is good" you know. But if it loses its saltiness, what good is it? (Little Scriptural humor there.) Best thing to do is go listen to a bunch of them and get the ones your ears like best. The Lord bless and keep you and cause His Face to shine on you.
