Apartment studio drum set

OK here's the deal. I live in a small apartment with neighbors everywhere. I will be buying (or making??) an electronic drum set. I have around $1,000 to spend. What is the most cost effective way to get a good sounding set for recording direct into an AKAI DPS12? I've read all of the other posts on this but I would like some fresh responses. Work me through the steps, lead me to sights whatever you think would help.

Thank you,

Tyler

Get a used set of Roland V-clubs. For the price/performance, you'd be hard set to match with DIY stuff.

what about yamaha?

A few people use the dtxpress but the reviews are so mixed. Does anyone use the dtx2u? Are the Yamaha sounds just not as good as Roland? Alesis Pro doesn't seem to be a bad buy for mesh style heads. I went and played the v-clubs and liked them I just wonder about how well they will record.

Thank you for your responses!

If you don't have a DAW that can record MIDI I'd suggest putting more money into the module and use the rest of your money for pads. The Roland TD-8 lets you edit a lot of the drums characteristics and is under a grand.

If you have some way to record MIDI tracks and a sampler of some sort (Like a computer DAW), Then I'd Splurge on pads and get an inexpensive trigger module like the Alesis DM5. Then you could record the MIDI output of the module and send that to a sampler to trigger your own samples.

dtxpress?

I've narrowed it down to these for the fact that I just don't think that I will be successful in making a kit.

DTXpress I or II
Roland V-club
Yamaha DTX 2.0

I might upgrade with some Pintech add ons.

I really would like to know how the dtxpress and DTX 2.0 sound recorded. If anyone has any clips to post that would be great.

OR?? would it be better to save up for a pre-owned set of Yamaha Extremes?

Thank you all so far!

Tyler
