Take a listen...drum solo

Finally worked through the whole process and posted on nowhereradio.com. This is me just fooling around one night. No mixing...mastering etc. Too much reverb though........

Sounds fun!

Yeah Kevin..... it sounds like a cool ass jam session. You have some pretty fast hands there! I agree with you about the reverb though!

Thanks for the post.

Def too much reverb and the toms sound like they've got too much low and low-mid.. they sound really thick. They would probably mud up your mix if there were other instruments.

may i ask what kind of mics ur using? i agree about the toms tho. it sounds very good to me.
i wonder why my recordings arn't sounding that good. no matter what i'm doing, it always comes out sounding like a garage recording.
i am recoding with a roland VS-2480, so i'm sure the device is good enough.
i'm using two Oktava MK319's for overhead/room mics
an akg cs1000 for my far left perc area (roto-toms, wdblk, cwbl, hi-hat)
i'm using 3 good sennheiser mics, the one you get in the three pack at sam ash, lol. and other mics of the same quality.
my bass drum is getting to sound good, i never liked my toms and my snare always sounds like shit. always. i tune it this way, that way, nothing works once i listen to it.
my question is, how do i get my drums from sounding like a garage recording....listen here....

http://www.nowhereradio.com/artists/?aid=1538/album219

----live jam with all other instruments in same room, the oktavas in front of my set, facing me (got pretty good isolation from other instruments by the way) seting up the stereo mix, the akg cs1000 above my head, pointed at the snare for overhead and a bass drum mic. all 3 sennheisers on the other instruments ------

......to sounding real, like yours?

Many, many thanks for the kind words and suggestions. I'll try and answer the questions that were posted and describe the equipment as well.

Lets see...equipment:
Drums: Yamaha Maple Customs
Cymbals: Ride: Zidjian K custom 20"
HH: Zildjian A custom master sounds 14"
Crashes: Paiste 18" full and fast crashes
Paiste 16"fast crash
Splash: Zidjian A custom 10"
Effects Cymbal: 12" Zildjian Remix over a 14" remix
MICS: Audix d2's on all Toms except large floor, D4 there
Shure beta 52 on kick, 57 on snare
Audio Technica as an overhead
Allen and Heath MixWizard 16:2DX board
TC Electronics M1 effects
Running into a soundblaster live card (WEAK LINK)
Using Sonar XL and Tannoy Reaveals as monitors

Yes the double bass is VERY weak...just started learning.
Can't remix without 'verb and alter EQ because it is recorded straight to PC with both included (Sounds like a lesson to me!)
Compression is from Sonar...could change that.

About me.......
Played starting around 4 years old until about 24. Sold everything and didn't play for 15 years. Started again about a year ago. Just for fun....get to play about twice a month. (Family etc........)

Again, I sincerly appreciate all the feedback. I'm having an incredible time just 'doin it for myself" !!!!!

That's some nifty playing there and a kick ass job of tuning. Really, as a fellow drummer that's what blew me away the most. The verb has to go, it would sound so nice clean with some slight room verb I think. Did you use any compression at all, maybe it would help some for the overall consistency. Otherwise, let your great tuning do the work.

52 is inside kick...about half way. Pointed at the beater...about 6" south of contact point.

that's awesome! can you play it again slower and record and then post it again! I'd like to figure out how you're getting the toms in there amongst the snare from like :40 seconds all the way through 1:12 or so. That's awesome! I've been playing for about 2 years.....
thanks, Jason

Yes there is compression on the kick. Everything was recording into computer(stereo). So...same compression on everything. Right now I can only record in stereo.

JasonBird...not sure what you would like an explanation on. Give more details.
