Finished Product

I have a finished Rap song. The quality is good in my Boss digital recorder.

The question about the mix down:

What are the basic editing and settings to filter out the hissing and to give the voice and music that vibrant sound.

I am using Cool Edit

Thank you
Adam

What type of Boss mixer do you have?? And also if you are recording right then you shouldn't have hiss in the background of your mixing board so it must be something else

I don't have a sound proof studio so the mic picks up some hissing.

I have a just the recorder no mixer.

Exclamation Need To Sample It Out

I have the system run several seconds in record mode BEFORE any tracks record. I ususally just ask the band members to sit very still and quite for about 10 seconds.

Then, after the recoding is done, I go back and sample at least a second of the supposed quiet part in the *Noise Reduction* panel. Then, I close the NR panel, go back and select the entire track, go back in to the NR panel, and apply the remove only noise option to the entire track. WARNING!!! -- You will need to toy around with the DB levels and the other 3 settings at the bottom to get the reduction just right. If you go too aggressive, you will get digital artifacts in the wave form.

Also, to get those great tonals in the voice, don't forget to wet up the track with some good delay affects. I prefer the *Full Reverb* section to pull from. You have to play with the settings to get a sound for your instance!

Check out my web site and see if there is info you can draw from... www.AudioMaverick.com

LILMAN I am going to touch up on what maverick said about the reverb for Rap vocals I like to use the Reverb called tight and close to find it you go to effects-->Reverb-->Tight And Close because to me it doesn't add to much reverb but it gives you that natural type reverb that you hear in everything else of course that is a personal appearance

And one other thing the room you record in doesn't have to be exactly sound proof because in my situation I record in my closet and it's not sound proof and it is kind of big but my mixing board doesn't pick up any echoes out of the room or anything so basically it all depends on your equip.
