converting midi to audio

Here's my problem:

I have two soundcards; an SB Live! for midi work/soundfonts and a Delta 66 +omni for audio.

I have recorded a midi backing clip that I wish to make a loop out of. So I need to convert it to audio first, right? (I can't see it in Loop construction view as it is and can't see anything about midi loop clips in Help).

So my qustion is, how can I get my midi out of my soundblaster and into my delta? Easily, or at all?

I have a feeling I am missing something here, but its been a long session!

Different versions of Cakewalk/Sonar allow you to do this in different ways.

Essentially what you need is another audio track that is set up to record the MIDI output of the SB Live. On some versions you can do this internally by routing stuff in the track view and with the mixer, on some versions you can't.

To get around it in any version, you can also attach a male-male 1/8" jack from the speaker output of the SB Live into the LINE IN of the SB Live. Set up an audio track to record from SB Live LINE IN and you will then have an audio track you can loop.

Surely you mean from the speaker out of the Live! to the input of the Delta? The Delta being my system's nominated Audio card.

I had thought of that method but wondered if there was a more elegant, internal route. I am using Sonar Lite (Home Studio 2002).

Yep - either or - the delta is the best bet........sorry, I was channeling my configuration from 1997.....

I am not familiar with Home studio - have you tried just creating a new audio track and setting the IN to be the output of the SB midi?

Home studio is the same as Sonar, just cut down in a few areas, but it has the same look and feel as Sonar.

I have tried recording an audio track from the midi track but I can't see where I can choose the midi output on the s/b as the input to the delta.

thats cuz u cna't ur just gonna have to put the output of the sblive into the input of the delta 66 setup the audio track and press record

or spit it out through a soft synth....

Why can't you set your SBL to record source as midi or "what u hear" and create an adio track using SB, export to wav and import back in using the Delta? if you're looping the clip than you don't need to worry about tempo syncing or anything right?

There is no way that I can see, without removing the delta from my DAW, to achieve this internally. Don't forget, Sonar cannot "see" the sbl for audio with my delta installed.

Best way is as Teacher posted; line out from the s/b into the input of the delta.
