latency improvement (help?)?

Hi, what kind of latency should I look for with Sonar 2.0, MOTU 24i, P4 1.6 256? How to tweak it to improve it, besides that buffer adjustment? I have 12 channels of the 24i enabled, disabled my SB Live, but my wave profiler still givesout life 96ms, lowest setting is 63ms? I see everyone talking about under 10ms, how do I get there? I downloaded the WDM drivers from MOTU...

A couple of thoughts.

I guess the first place that I would look is in the mixer that came with your sound card (I am assuming it came with one). There is probably a buffer size setting there somewhere. See if you can lower it, and then reprofile the card in Sonar.

Other than that, are you sure you are using the WDM drivers? For ex., make sure you don't have the Use MME Interface box checked in Options/Audio.

Also, when Sonar first profiles your sound card, it will tell you it has found WDM drivers. If you're not sure, go into your Sonar folder and delete the aud.ini file. Now start Sonar again and upon start-up it will profile your sound card(s) again. It should tell you at this point that it has found WDM drivers. If not, maybe you need to reinstall the drivers.

thanks

any suggestions as to what size the buffers should be set at? I left them at default settings...
I will double check the drivers, but I'm pretty sure that they are installed/selected. I do not have the MME enabled. thanks for the response!

one more thang...does having my SBLive in the adjacent PCI slot (even though it is disabled in Cakewalk) pose a potential conflict? if so, can it be corrected in Control Settings, or do I need to reposition? Or does that not have anything to do with this...

sblive has nothing to do with it

as far as ur buffer settings within ur sound cards mixer put them as low as ur computer will allow you too meaning if sonar starts droppin out too much and crashing then ur buffer settings are too low go one step up till u get low latency as well as stable performance

I will do that. Any guidelines as to how low I should be able to get/what is "acceptable"?
