Digital Audio cdr format vs Digital cdr format

One of my clients purchased a Pioneer pdr509 recorder,(cool) It follows the scms guidlines too well though!
As most musicians know sound fields vary from room to room and most Home studio types try to test their mixes in a variety of places to get a sense of how well they mixed their tune! The scms has made this expensive for these people because they can't record on the cheaper media ie cdr digital 1/3rd the price..So is there a way to use a computer cd-burner to allow the Pioneer box to use standard cdr' for these purposes, We are not interestred in the anti piracy limitation as it is his own tunes in his own hands and mistakes are cheaper to bury!

I burn about a dozen mixes on a rewritable disc, play it back through my monitors, my home stereo in my livingroom, and in my truck (98 Ford Ranger 4x4).
I know that this is improbable. Everyone seems to agree that a rewritable disc won't play on other sources, but it does for me.
As a matter of fact, it works on both of my regular 5-disc cd players. Both of them are Sony's.
I'm not making a sales pitch for Sony here, but they are the only players I've come across that will read the rewritable discs, and I've tryed them all (at Best Buy one day).
Anyway, I just pick the best mix from the bunch and then use the <digital out> from the Sony to the <digital in> of the CD recorder to burn the best two mixes on my running masters.
Once my CD is finished, I'll get it all mastered and start out with a few hundred copies via replication.
I know that this isn't the cheapest way of doing things, but it does save me money in the long run.

Do you mean you burn an "Audio CD" onto CD-RW media? And your CD player reads it??

I didn't know that was possible.

Yes I mean to format the cd-r or -rw to be considered by the pioneer box to be cd-r or cd-rw digital audio designation as these are the only cd's that this style of burner will recognize!

To Buck 62:I read your message with interest,but I need to know since you didn't specifically mention it;is your CD recorder the Pioneer PDR-509 like the person to whom you were replying?I also have a Sony CD player w/optical out and I have the possibility of buying a Pioneer at a good price,so this could be a solution for me.Thanks!

Is that the same format as the phillips unit? It only burns on CD-RAs (that's CD-R audio). They cost about 3 times more than CD-Rs. If this is what you have then you can't use CD-Rs in it.

I'd really love to know where everyone sees these Audio CD-Rs at for 3 times the data CDR price. I buy my Audio CDRs 50 for $40.

CD-Rs are cheep everywhere. Go to Circuit City thogh and price CD-RAs. They are 3 times more than a CD-R and they're the only thing that works in the Phillips CD burners. That,s why I dumped mine after about one month.

SCMS was just another chapter in "Planned Obsolescense".

There are still suckers out there that pay top dollar for systems with SCMS which was already a ripoff eight years ago.

The latest trend in technology is to assume users are "criminals" every time they "license" their product.

Yeah, at Circuit City, Best Buy, Sam Goody, The Wall, etc., they are more expensive. I don't shop for media at those places, I go to CompUSA and Staples. There you will find them at great prices, not the rip-off prices.

I personally agree with you on the SCMS issue, which is a double stab in the back to suckers like me who pay a reasonable price for gear, and chuck 30 cents or so extra for royalties on "consumer media". BTW, how do you feel about paying royalties on EVERY audio and video cassette you buy, just so record companies can "recoup" losses. Bulljive if you ask me, but my 4x home recorder still makes a profit.
