I was cleaning out my room and I found this box.... I open it up- hey! these some cables in here!

one was a speaker cable- horizon (hey I wondered where that went)
one was a "radio shack" special coiled instrument cable (damn! it won't let me lose it)

the other one was a mysterious sort- it looked to be of good quality 1/4 to 1/4 about 4 feet- nothing engraved on the sleeve, no writing on the cable except very faintly you could read "Oxygen Free Copper Cord" hmmm.... exciting.... who did I accidently steal this from?

So what's with "Oxygen Free" anyway?

Probably sealed to prevent oxidation of the copper.

Oh man. You should see this consumer/home speaker cable by Monster Cable I've had around since the mid-80's. Oxidized to hell. It even has what looks to be mold inside of it. I even took good care of it.

So I guess being Oxygen free dosen't really effect the sound, but just prolongs the life of the cable.?

Nope. I just saw it the other day while cleaning-out the vault (my bedroom closet). I still haven't and won't throw it away; and I don't know why. I usually don't have a problem with throwing crap cables away.

You're probably right about "Oxygen Free" cables just prolonging its life.

I wonder if our lives would be prolonged if we were oxygen free? Hehe

Oxygen free copper supposedly means that there's no air in between the coppoer molecules of the wire,which is supposed to improve the conductivity of the cable.

I wish. I'd know a lot more now... I had a pretty expensive large Fisher component home stereo system: 2X110w Receiver, Tuner (not in receiver), CD Player, Dual cassette deck, Turntable, 3-Way Speakers with 15" woofers.

That system could be heard nearly a 1/4 mile down the the street. I know because I always got complaints.

I still have the turntable, CD player, and speakers. I've almost gotten rid of the speakers a few times, but I just can't bring myself to do it. Friends in the neighborhood that I grew-up with (we're very close and we still stay intouch a lot), still tell me if I ever want to sell them, just let 'em know; they're legends with my friends.

I had a paper-route at through my young ages because I had to pay for all my dog's vet bills (she had quite a few ear surgerys through her life). What I didn't go to paying vet bills went to my stereo system and bucketloads of cassettes.

Actually, I didn't get into recording when I was 15 after I moved up here toward Sacramento.

Just a point of info--oxygen free copper cable IS a much better conducter for an electrical current. That green crap on speaker and audio cable is oxidization and should be removed from any of your cables. It really adds resistance to your cable and also will interfere with certain frequencies. It is akin to the crap that gets on battery cables and distributor caps and hurt car performance. So guess what it oxidization does to your music. And no hitmix, I don't want to buy the Brooklyn bridge.

But, by the same token, this is a bit more technical explanation than "there is air molecules" keeping the elictricity from going through.
