Just an idea for Sonar....

When I record and I have to punch parts in.... I hear minor pops and glitches at the begining of the punch. One time sombody once told me to use a good plug-in EQ. I have many and they are all good. But EQing pops and glitches within Sonar or Cakewalk is a pain so I use my own method which is difficult. But it sounds better then EQing it.

I find the actual wave file I recorded in the wave folder within the Cakewalk 9 directory, (Sonar shares this folder). I open Cool Edit Pro 2000, then I open the Sonar recorded wave file and edit it using the Cool Edit Pro. Once I clean up the file I save it to my Desk Top and Open up Sonar. I now insert the clean wave file back into the Sonar recording and it sounds great!

My idea is if only Sonar allowed for an editing program like Cool Edit Pro to be opened within Sonar to clean up the file. My way is too time consuming. The hardest part is finding the actual wave file. Cakewalk/Sonar names the file with a unique number/letter. So if one records a bass line and names the audio file bass, that is not the name Cakewalk assigns to it within it's folder.

when I record I keep the folder open so I would know what name Cakewalk assigns to it. If I miss it, (and it happens often), then I am in a world of shit! Then I would have to spend much time finding it by going thru each and every wave file in the folder.

This totally sucks! Does anyone have a better idea?

This really is possible! If you upgrade to Sonar 2.0, you will get to use the new file system, wich I think is great! Per project file storing, and filenames that is possible to understand...

It's an extra empty Tools-meny entry where (if you import it to your registry) you can put Cool Edit Pro.

Your pops may be a result of audio edited in the middle of a wave peak.

Try this:
Right click the Snap to Grid button. When the dialogue box appears, check the Snap to Zero Crossings box. When doing this, the clip is sliced at the moment that volume is zero. To me, there's no reason for this to ever be unchecked.

That's my suggestion too.

A pop usually is the restult of a wav that does not end at the zero crossing.

I can think of no situation where you would not want that setting enabled.

However, I have noticed that slip editing does not automatically snap to zero crossings, even when the "snap to zero" setting is on. That should be fixed, IMO.

Well Fellas,

I tried to get the regedit thing happening and I followed the instructions to the 'tee'. But it don't work.

I open up Sonar go to the 'Tools' menu and Cool Edit Pro 2 is there. I click on it and it does nothing but go grey. Thats it!

My OPS is Windows 98SE. I copied the target directory from the CEP2 shortcut and entered it in the 'value data field' of Exepath. ("C:\Program Files\coolpro2\coolpro2.exe").

Entered 'Cool Edit Pro 2' in the 'MenuText' value data field. And entered Run Cool Edit Pro 2 in the 'Status Bar Text' value data field. Restarted the computer, Sonar, Tools, Cool Edit Pro 2.......NADA! Niet....NOGO.....NINE! What's up? What am I doing wrong?

The tools shortcut to your audio editor only opens if there is an audioclip selected - you don't need to find the offending .wav file on your drives, just click on its picture in the sonar track lane and then call up CoolEdit. Be careful, if more than one clip is selected - you will get a seperate instance of the editor opening for each clip!

Great! Now it works! But.... I'm running into a problem with more than one music playback software program being on.

A pop-up window named Output Device Error reads: MMSYSTEM004 The specified device is already in use. This happens when I have Sonar opened and I open up another music program.

If I click Cool Edit Pro 2 it opens up in Sonar but I get no sound in addition to the pop-up window. It could even be Windows Media Player and this pop-up window shows If Sonar is opened. Any ideas fellas?

It sound that your soundcard-drivers doesen't allow you to have more than one audioapp open at a time.

But see if (in Sonar) Options -> Audio -> Advanced -> "Share Drivers with other programs" is checked. If it's not, do it. It may work...
