I first heard of Doc Watson on an album called "Will the Circle be Unbroken", it was a collaboration between The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band and some of the stalwarts of the bluegrass field, notably Doc, Maybelle Carter, Earl Scruggs, et al.

I practiced for months until I mastered The Tennesee Stud.

And there never was a horse like the Tennessee Stud. I've seen the good Doctor many times over the years. It was a shame when Merle was killed.

I live here in wonderful Winston-Salem, NC, just a stone's throw from Wilkesboro and Boone where that culture thrives. I've seen Doc Watson only once, when I was maybe 14 years old. It was a captivating enough performance then to impress a dumb teenager. We have MANY brilliant bluegrass pickers around here. There are many incredible unknowns, guys in their 60's and 70's that have been playing for decades, that are just incredible. A local civic center does a Friday night jam that many come out to see or play with others. It rocks.

I have played the Stud a few times. Took forever to learn. Great tune. Now I am working on the Arkansas Traveler off the Albert Lee tape he put out a few years ago.

Hey daddycatfish, I hope you are recording some of those great players back there in the East. I always wanted to put together a laptop studio wander the hills and record some of those guys. I think an updated version of the Unbroken Circle Albumn would be a great thing.
