I've been playing in bands for 20+ years and in my experience it's usually the bassist who is the most anal-retentive.

Guitar players are really anxious about change. We like it the way it was back in the good old days, with tubes, and big mechanical springs, and wood, and tweed. With nothing new to worry about, we obsess on details.

Bass players are much more accepting of new technology for some reason. Weird shapes and extra strings and solid-state and composite materials.

But everybody knows that chicks dig the guitar player.

in all my years of playing in go-go, r&b, and reggae bands i've never met a bass player i couldn't get along with, and i've only met 1 bass player who didn't have a 'who gives a f*ck, just do the damn thing' attitude. that 1 bass player was the leader of his band but the band went nowhere.

of course the lead singer (Ginuwine) went on to become a star.

That's an easy one. Your standing too close to the beer sign with that Strat!

Seriously it could be any number of things. Poor quality cord, poor/no shielding in your axe, strong electrical/magnetic field nearby (like a computer monitor no ground on your amp. Be careful what else you touch while your touching your strings. People have been killed by bad grounds between amps and PA's! Nothing quite like walking up to the mike to sing and ZAP! Right on the lips!
