Bass string help

I converted an old cheapie bass that was given to me a long time ago to fretless, it has a short scale, 30", rosewood fingerboard. What strings would you recommend? Do they need to be flatwound for fretless? Help, I'm just a guitar player who occasionally lays down a bass track at home...
