Have you ever heard of this company?

Alright, so I only own a couple old electric guitars and all of them are cheapies but I need some info on one of them.

Has anyone heard of a Pan? It looks and feels exactly like an old Gibson SG. I payed $75 for this guitar used at my local music store and I wouldn't sell it for anything. It's outstanding in all regards but I want to know about more about it. My search on the internet led nowwhere. If you know anything of this company or the other models they made please help.

Thank you,

Tyler

This probably isn't of much help but I have seen one Pan.

The friend that got me interested in playong guitar and bass in highschool had one as his 1st electric. Exactly as you described it was an SG copy and had decent tone but he wanted a name brand and worked overtime all summer to buy a used Strat.

UP till now I have never seen any other Pan's but there are some very knowledgable people on this board that may have more info for you.

Thanks!

He got rid of it? I don't know about his but mine has amazing tone. The humbuckers sound crystal clear. Is Pan a Gibson made guitar then? Kinda like a Squire for Fender? I am sure it wasn't made in the U.S.
Thanks for your responses!

Ah ha, busted....... .......

I waded through that sight and one poster mentioned that Aria had something to do with Pan......

You've got me interested in this brand now.....but so far, my searches have yielded next to nothing else.....it seems that everybody who's had one or played one, liked 'em, which is a pretty good review.......gibs

Hey gibs...

I had a Penco SG copy back in the mid 70's that was as sweet as a mid-sixties Gibson SG... and I'm not kidding.
It had a set of DiMarzio humbuckers and gorgeous Mother of Pearl inlay on the neck, as well as a beautiful clearcoat finish over natural wood.
The hardware was top-notch and this guitar played like a dream.
I could kick myself for letting this guitar go, but I got caught up in the "Strat-hype" and sold it to get a new Stratocaster, which I ended up selling 2 years later anyway.
I've heard that Penco Les Paul copies were absolutely phenomenal, too.

If anyone can find me a Penco SG in decent condition, I would gladly pay a finder's fee of $50 just for locating it for me!

Penco guitars were imported by The Philidelphia Music Exchange and were made in Japan in the early 70's by Ibanez.
Penco also has a reputation for making incredibly good acoustic guitars back in that era. So if you ever come across a Penco acoustic, it's gonna have a solid spruce top and sound just like an old Martin... smooth and sweet.

Anyway.... I have $50 for the first person who can find me a Penco SG!!!!

Buck62,

That was the one (model) my friend had. Natural finish SG copy and yes Tyler he traded it in for the Strat. He is a phenominal guitar player but has sworn off electric guitars and gone bluegrass but picked up mandolin now too.

I have not seen one since but that might be a bargain hunters dream from what I have read here. I am primarily a bass player and acoustic guitar but I have 68 Tele and something Gibson style with humbuckers would be a nice addition for variety.

Don't get the word out too loud I don't want the prices to skyrocket before I can get a steal on one.

By the way, since we're talking about old and really rare guitar brands, I'm just wondering whether anyone out there has heard of a Japanese guitar company called Eikosha? I currently have a Jazz Bass copy by that brand(looks like somethin out of the 70's). I've also seen a few around before lookin' like Macca's violin bass and some other odd designs. Hopefully someone out there could tell me more about the company.
