I just uploaded another...

I just uploaded a new song. I'm interested in what you all have to say about it...

It's called "you, You and Me"

Here's the page it's on

Thanks for your time and input!

This is excellemt Vice.I listen to this kind of stuff daily.....a lot rippingtons, fourplay, spyro gyra and this has a smooth jazz feel to it like those bands have.....this doesnt have as much instrumentation as those bands of course but it the groove does sound similiar..it also sounds a little like some of the keyboard heavy TOTO from the early 80's.

It would be nice if their was a horn solo or guitar break........LT. Bob could probably smoke a jazzy horn solo on this.....maybe he'll see this and give it a whirl...really good basis for an instrumental tune you have here Vice.

I just listened to it again and it definetly is a good tune.It just needs some type of lead thing going on at some point to take it to a higher peak.Is that a guitar I hear in the left side or a guitar sim?Cool little tune.Ok,now that Ive bumped this song back to the top before it leaves the front page I'll leave it be for now.

p.s. What are using for drums?

Thanks for checking out the tune. I have a slightly different version of the song I'll post it within the next couple of days. I originally wanted to put lyrics to the song, but, I'm not sure now. I too feel the need for some type of solo over it, but, I'm not sure what to do with it. Maybe LT. Bob? Or someone like Tom Hicks (I heard some guitar work he did on christmas tune he did months back and was really impressed...I don't htink I told him...) Or anyone for that matter, that would be cool to get a different perspective on it.

The guitar you hear is from my QS6.1 and I tried out that revalver plug-in that came with Sonar. I didn't quite get the results I originally sought, but I am kinda diggin it. I need to learn more about it though. It sucks having a crappy DAW when I use that plug I can't listen to any other audio tracks! A lot of trial and error! What do I use for drums? My DM5 and whole lotta luck!

Thanks for listening, Kramer

This is a very fine groove, sounds great, and suggests a variety of cool melodies...either of the guys mentioned would absolutely smoke it, as would other excellent players around here. Lyric would be cool also, so many possibilities with such a quality track.
Al Jarreau could probably do a pretty good turn on a vocal...
A real pleasure listening to this, gonna follow its evolution.

I thought this was a very well done recording. Everything was very clean and crisp (but not overly crisp). Very well played.

What stuck out most was the effective use of panning. I thought you separated things well. It sounded real cool on headphones - something that doesn't happen often.

Good job.

Again, thank you for all your kind comments... For the time being, I am not going to post the other version of this song. It had an organ track on it, but it didn't really fill the void of a (needed) solo.

Thanks,

Vice

immediately loud sounding and crystal clear without being strident. NICE

I Like the musicianship and the mix

Funk on!

Nice mix. Nice depth. Nice space. Good levels.

I would get real a real drummer for this one. At the very least get more real sounding cymbals and stop the hi hat when the drums are accenting or filling.

What kind of compression did you use on the final mixdown?
What are you monitoring with?

Thanks Pilgrum... I will redo the drums... That makes perfect sense about the drums. I am still learning the intricacy of drum programming... I would have loved actual drums on this piece. That is a goal of mine to actually have real drums on behind my music...

As far as compression... I used 2.0:1 @-15db... I can't remember what my output gain was, though... I used that on the drums and then again on the final stereo tracks. I did everything in Sonar except the compression on the final stereo tracks, that was done in Sound Forge. I like the meters and compression plug-in better in SF. Nice and easy to read. the Cakewalke FX plug for compression has too much stuff on it that I haven't taken the time figure it out yet.

My monitoring is done in a 12'x11' room with no treatment. I use some Altec Lansing multimedia speakers w/sub (christmas gift). When I feel the song is done. I take it up stairs to my computer in the kitchen. Where I have another set of even older Altec Lansing speakers w/sub (about 6 years old). Where I try to listen for problems. I repeat the process until I am brave enough to post it here... One day I will get some real monitors and treat my little studio room.

Thanks for posting...

Okay, I just went to Mr. Benoit's page. I am really diggin' his stuff. I saw the album he did in tribute to Charlie Brown. I have seen that before, but I never heard it. I never put it together that was David Benoit. His stuff is nice!
