P.S.---CRANK IT! It sounds a lot better loud...and don't give me any of that 'fletcher/munsen curve' crap, either!

Overall it sounds great. Excellent harmonies! Something funky is going on with the drums during the chorus. The rhythm doesn't make sense. It really sticks out in the right channel at 1:09. Other than that I really like it.

Good job Darth-I could hear everything clearly and the vocals were sitting well on top of everything-nice harmonies-well arranged tune-I agree the drum part was a little busy with those off accents during the chorus-they sounded in time but they drew a little too much attention. Anyway nice recording, I remember the last song you posted sounded real good too-good to hear from you again.

Great song. I loved it. Excellent harmonies. Great job of recording and performing. Loved the guitars - great distorted sound.

As far as the drums during the chorus... They were pretty busy. I'm thinking if you just took out the ride cymbal they might be ok.

The lead vocal could maybe be brought up just a bit.

I can't decide on the intro... I like the sweet little song turning into a rocker. But the intro was pretty long. Maybe eliminate the last couple of bars where the voices are brought in.

Excellent job.

What's a handjab? Is it anything like a hand job?

Anyway this sounds really freaking professional to me. Are you a pro? Should be on the radio. I want to know how you get the vocal to cut through like that. It sounds like the guitars are actually louder than the vocal but the vocal still gets through the mix. How do you do that? Please tell.

I agree about the drums being too busy in the chorus. Maybe try removing the bell ride cymbal and tone down the crashes?

Anyway, you should definitely be able to attract clients with this level of production, not to mention sell records.

Just listened again and I swear I can hear some speed up/slow downs in the tempo after the first chorus.

speeds up around 1:33 to be exact.

Really clean recording... great sound overall. You obviously know your way around your recording gear. I agree that the off beat rhythms in the chorus are a little weird, although I like it on the break down part towards the end. Maybe you could save it for that part and make the earlier choruses more straight forward. Also, the vocals lose a little presence in the chorus, they could come up a bit or maybe boost the high mids just a tad to bring them out of the mix.

Great vocal arrangements and performance... it keeps me from comparing it to Blink 182 outright. But still the lead vocals have that quality... very genre influenced. Maybe try the lead vocals again without that Blink bent to it, make them more original sounding if you dare.

Really good...

Jon

Listen...
I am TIRED of hearing people compare the stuff hear to Blink 182!!! They SUCK!!! Sloppy kids music. If there was no Ramones then there would be no Greenday...if there was no Greenday then no one would give a damn about Blink 182. This is much better than that shit!!!
And dont get me wrong, I like Greenday, if only for their GREAT guitar sounds...I just have to blame them for stuff like Blink 182.

LOL..I agree.....I would take it as an insult.I know the posters that referred to them didnt mean it that way but I just think they are as a bubble gum as britney spears......only with guitars.

King-

Astute derivation time tabling there. Wha?

If I might elaborate on my comparison. Green Day started it with that kind of "I'm not a singer, I'm a punk ass kid and I don't give a shit" quality to their singing. Not to say they and all the bands that were influenced by them (blink 182 included) aren't singing. They are. And a lot of the time they're singing very catchy melodies and Darth's song is no exception. It's just that quality to the vocal performance that really blares for me.

Forgive me... I have the same problem with Whitney Houston copiers and Britney Spears derivaters (is that a word).

Jon..

...he who tried his damnest to play exactly like EVH.

Whoa...didn't mean any insult...quite the opposite. AND TECHNICALLY, I didn't say it SOUNDED like B182, I just ASKED if...well, okay, I guess that's pretty much the same thing.

no offense intended...it's just a slick, killer, great mix...that's all. If anybody ever insults me like that, I'll give thanks!!!

No, ... please...insult me.

I agree with everyone about the REALLY busy drums, but just try to tell that to the drummer, it's not always so easy!

erichenryus: getting the vocal to cut through? COMPRESSION, my man, compress the piss out of it!

Gidge: My name is Tom Lord-Alge. Just kidding, I'm Jeff Horne, a 23 year old kid from Nasvhille, following a dream.

Kramer: the band doesn't play to a click track...don't even start to ask me why. You're exactly right about the tempo, and it's way more than just one time!

chrisharris: this tune was actually recorded, mixed and mastered by the ever masterful Jeff Horne, with no Jason Bullock! Jason second engineered the record with me, but had nothing to do with this tune. The record, I mixed and mastered and engineered, he seconded for me. If you want to hear some more mixes that I've done recently, check out this and this.

And guys, as for the Blink 182, Green Day thing....I can only laugh! I'm flattered and appauled at the same time!

Thank you all for listening and giving compliments and suggestions. They are all taken very seriously.

Expect to hear more from me very soon!

Darth

I didnt wanna point out all of the times I heard the timing fluctuate.Didnt wanna come off the wrong way....I was sure you already knew about it before I even mentioned it,but I was amazed that nobody else in this thread caught it....There's really no way NOT to hear it.LOL..This is a damn good song with a great hook.Ive been playing it all night and singing harmony parts. It's got a pop hook of course so that means I'll listen to it over and over for 2 weeks and then I'll burn out on it.But thats enough time to sell an assload of CD's upon releasinig this as a single.....with the timing issues in this recording though it looks like the boys in the band will be re-recording this if it's gonna go on an album eh? ........Are you in the band too or are you just producing and promoting them?

Darth, this is strong, very cool. Quality in writing, performance, and mix, the trifecta.
Gotta agree with Kramer about the drums, though...only flaw in an otherwise killer track.

I really like the vocal sound, and the harmonies are excellent.

I kind of like the mad drums. But they are a bit mad.

And I love the "one note guitar" bit through the last verse and chorus - it's a classic, and it never fails!

Great stuff.

It took me a while to get into it, but I quite like this piece. THe chorus is quite catchy.

Funk on!

It's not just the drums. The whole band followed him as he got out of time!LOL.Thats the mark of a good band unit though...Follow the drummer wherever he leads even if it's into an ambush! It is a killer song otherwise.

Dude.. this mix rocked!!

and the song was pretty good too.. catchy and what not.

and for the record... I liked the nifty ride accents in the chorus... The drums were really "raw".. they had that, "we're jammin' this song out live" sound.. instead of that, "we played this in the studio" sound..

I can't really add anything as far as advice.. this is way beyond my league..
