monotonous recordings..
i've been recording a couple of bands lately including my own..and i've noticed they all sound pretty similar! of course i use the exact same equipment on each band, etc... one band is a punk band, and mine is just rock basically, but they sound similar.
does anyone else have these problems? T |

I used to have those problems, but then I started switching my signal chain around and using different techniques, and, surprisingly, the problem went away.

Don't keep doing things exactly the same way. VI has a good suggestion.
You may also have too much 'color' in your signal path and that can get a little tiresome. If your recordings lack clarity than it doesn't allow all the personality of the individual instruments and musicians styles to get through. |

You have to use variations in your mixing, processing, and eq'ing technics*.

You probably produce with an idea of how you want a band to sound. Instead, try to assess what the strengths or peculiarities of each act are and try to bring those out in the recording.
