Lookin' for a home-studio amp

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for an amp specifically for recording in a studio environment and for song writing etc - but not for gigging with. My style of music is 60's surf (in terms of sound anyway), through a jazzmaster. I'd also like to have a two-speaker amp for miking variety, but the amp wattage doesnt need to be high of course.

I like the Fender Twin Reverb, but its too loud for my purposes. Anyway Id like if youd give me suggestions of suitable Fender amps. I'd like to get something pre-CBS, are the pre CBS versions still reliable after all these years? Pros and Cons are also a great help, and the approx price of yr suggestions helps too.

Well,PreBS Fender...
The Deluxe of that era is smaller than a Twin but bigger than a Princeton.Maybe you have heard of all the Deluxes and Champs used for years in analog studios?But you are gonna pay premium prices for anything vintage Fender.
There are alternatives.I picked up a 1958 Gibson GA6 18 watt tube amp for $40 and had an electronics buddy rewire it point to point with milspec components to the deluxe schematic.Funny thing is it had the original two Sylvania 6L6 power tubes painted black.My tech buddy called them "blackout tubes" and said they were surplus WWII military.Anyway,the other brand name tube amps of the 50s-60s era are pretty equivalent to Fender in terms of quality.But you can pick em up cheaper usually.

There is a Fender amp called 'The Twin'. It has the clean sound of the Twin Reverb and also the distortion sound of the Super Reverb. It's a tube amp with 2 nice JBL's. You bet it can be loud but it has a real nice sound at a low volume also if you set it right. The only problem is trying to find one, good luck.

I have to echo Tom's post..Also look into the old Gretch amps from the early 60's , great sounding amps in the low wattage vain..Proboly could find one for cheap..Also for a modern alternitive I like the little Tech 21{Sansamp Co.}amp.299.00 or so ..about ten watts with a 10" speaker..Solid state though but very cool..Good luck

Thanks for the help everyone, I'm rather confused in relation to what i should be looking at. I've done my research and discovered that most of my "idols" use the twin live, but I've no idea as to whether they substitute it with something else when in the studio.

And once again... I suggest a Fender Princeton Reverb...
