Question Recording piano????

Can anyone tell me the best way to record a piano?

Its an upright. iv considered just miking through the lid but need guidance because you only pick up certain frequencies.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

thank you

Do a search in this forum on something called the "Huge thread" or something to that effect. It was about a year ago, and Harvey Gerst provided TONNES of info about ALL sorts of stuff on mics and micing. I would have PAID for the information in that post!!

Hey Balshazza,

What Chris is talking about is The Big Thread. It will take a couple hours to get through, more if you're not just skimming There is information specific to mic'ing piano in there, and yes -- uprights. It will open your eyes, grasshoppa

I'm at work right now, but I have a book at home which I believe tells you to remove the panel above the pedals. You can mic that for better sound./
