Question I am lost!!! can anybody help?

Greeting all,

I just want to begin recording my music (eastern music).
I want to record drums, lute (similar to acoustic guitar), and violin. Mainly 4 to 6 Inputs

I have two main problems?

1. Which brand to go for? There are so many brands; I am lost! I really don’t know what to choose :
a. Bushranger
b. Yamaha
c. Mackie
d. tascam
e. alesis
f. yamaha
g. lem
h. Roland
i. Sonic
j. Cubase
k. Alesis
l. Fostex

2. Should I go for 4 track recorder or a mixer?

3. Should I go for digital or analog?

Specifications I am looking for:
Effects like echo, vocals, ...etc and reasonable price.

I will greatly appriciate any of your help

A 4-track recorder OR a mixer?

Hmmm. This is an interesting point. You are comparing brands of software and motorcycles in the same list. (well, it's not that bad, but close )

My suggestion is that you do a LOAD of research before you buy.

Find out what brand offers which things, what the difference between it all is, etc.... Find out what you gotta look for etc. We cannot decide what you have to buy, you gotta do that yourself. We can help you in that decision. But you've got alot to learn first.

Of the stuff I bought the last year, I already knew how to use it before I even ordered it. With all the online manuals/reviews etc, there really isn't an excuse anymore to not know what you buy.

For simple, 4 track recording at a reasonable price, the Zoom MRS4 can't be beat, IMHO. I got one a couple of weeks ago, and for my needs it is perfect. In fact, I got rid of my Tascam 424 MkIII shortly after getting the MRS4. No bells & whistles, and the effects are modest (but useful).

But I agree with the previous poster, do your homework 1st, and decide for yourself what will best fit your needs.

Make sure you have a decent compressor (..or a unit with built-in compression) to tame those instruments!

If you live in a cold climate you should use analog gear with tubes to help warm up your music.
