Midi and my Synth

I am really new to midi, but heres my question:

I have a Korg MS2000 and want to start dumping the sounds I program from it into the computer as midi files.

Do I need special software for this?

I have all the necessary midi connections. So far I am using midi for the keyboard triggers.

The best way is to use a Sound Editor/Midi Librarian program. Sound Diver by Emagic is pretty popular. Check to make sure they have a template setup for your synth.

If your keyboard will do it you can also do a MIDI SysEx dump of the patches and record that with any midi sequencer program.

Thanks for the replies. I have Emagic Sound Diver 2.2 . It came with my POD. I didnt know that I could use it with other stuff.

Sondriven... Hi...

As TexRoadkill said, you can record a system exclusive to a track on your sequencer program.....and 2 cents further...you can record the patch data at the front of a track or song..that way when you play it back the synth will be set up the way you had it when you did the track the first time. Thing to remember is that you sould keep the BPM the same (Or Slower) as when you recorded the Sys. Exclusive data.

Hello again,

I seem to be having problems with this. I dont think that I have a template for the Korg MS2000. I checked the manual and found nothing about this. In the Sound Diver Program, the only thing I figured out how to do is have the Midi Monitor on, and when I went to dump my Midi Program Data I received all the data but there was no way to save it.

Im kinda confused on how all this works. Someone mentioned a sequencer program. Is Sound Diver this? Or is that something like Fruity Loops. I do have that also.

Take a look at the sounddiver web site. I don't think the free version that came with the POD is quite the same. You may need to buy their full program.

A sequencer is a midi mulitrack program. FruityLoops might do it but I dont use that and can't be sure.
