hey guys.. a studio in my hometown is having a moving sale. i emailed them and they sent me the following list. most of this stuff i have never heard of and have no idea how good the price on it is. take a look at it and see if you notice any particularly good deals. keep in mind that the prices are in canadian... well i checked out some of the stuff.. can anyone convince me 500$CA (about 315$US) is NOT a price to be jumped upon for a yamaha SPX 990, before i spend some hard earned cash that could, conveivably, go elsewhere?

There's a ton of great gear there, way too much to comment on in detail. Depends on what you need... are you looking for a console? Outboard processers? Effects? What is your main buying area right now?

Couple of things that jumped out:

The Aphex Expressors: wonderful little mono compressor, great on kick drum amongst other things

The Neotek Elan with all the cabling and patchbays: would make a wonderful analog centerpiece to any studio not requiring an automated board. The mic pres included in this console are probably way better than any of the budget (sub $500) pres you see debated around here constantly (and you're getting a couple of dozen of them!)

The Yamahas SPX series never seem to go out of style. I'm not sure how much of a "deal" the prices are - check against recent auctions on E-bay.

That's a pretty impressive gear list, and the prices are very good. If you want to get the scoop on what you ought to buy, send an email of the list to fletcher@mercenary.com and tell him what you need (mic pres, channel strips, 2-bus compressors, etc.) I'm sure he can tell you what to jump on. His encyclopedic knowledge of various model numbers far surpasses mine.
