How to use FreeFilter?

I downloaded the demo version of FreeFilter this morning. It looks like it could be a neat tool, particularly for the eq challanged like myself. But how do you use it? It doesn't seem to have any instructions or online help.

I'm specifically interested in the Learn function. I assume you take the mix you want to emulate, and click on Source/Learn. Then you play the mix. When I hit stop I get a message saying the source has been learned.

Now I take the mix I want to apply the emulation to. So do I open that mix, and click Destination/Learn?

After that do I click Match? Cause after I do all that, nothing seems to happen.

Can someone walk me through how to use this thing. Thanks.

Here is the process:

1. Load the reference file that you want to use as the source (the one you want to emulate.)

2. Activate the SOURCE swithc by clicking on it. Source switch and Learn switch will light up. Then start playback of the source audio material.

3. Stop playback of the source audio when you have reached a point where you feel that FF has learned enough. (personally I like to let it go through the whole song in most cases.)

4. Load the destination file that you want to process.

5. Activate the DEST switch. Dest switch and Learn switch will light up. Start playback of the destination audio.

6. Stop playback of the destination audio.

7. If you click on the Match switch. FF will display the filter curve that it has generated. You can then use this on the destination audio file by playing it.

8. The Morph fader will adjust the filter curve of the destination against the new filter curve.

9. To save this filter setting, click on the Preset button select Edit and name the preset. This way you can save this new filter curve for use with other material.

Thanks, SM. I'll give that a try and see how I make out.

Part of what was throwing me was I was expecting the faders on the graphic eq to change when I applied the "match", but they all just sat there at 0db making it seem like nothing was going on.

Does it make any difference whether you use the log or the linear scale?
