Does CEP work with Propellerhead's Reason?
I guess not but does anybody know for certain?
Thanks, Andrés

unREASONable response
Don't take this the wrong way, because I'm sure your question is valid, and I'm sure there's an answer out there somewhere...but I have no f&*^%ing idea what you're talking about. I'm just writing this to thank you for giving me my next band name...

Reason and CEP
Hi Andrés -
Cool Edit Pro does not support ReWire, therefore you cannot stream Reason directly. However, you can open any of Reason's final mixdowns in CEP as you would any other wave/aiff. Look me up on the Propellerhead's forums! |

CE 1.2 is a snake-eyed SOB with FruityLoops too. Does 2.0 work any better with FL? Anybody know? Slackmaster once talked about how you can keep Fruity and n-Track open at the same time and work on the same files simultaneously. Sounds like heaven to me...

Maybe the question is: Can you sync the two?

On My Honor
Cordura - yeah...propellerhead is also slang for computer geek, so I think I'm infinitely more entitled to use the name than some electronic duo from the U.K. Nope, my mind is made up, and I'm not heeding your advice...I'm definitely going with "Propellerhead's Reason" for a band name. I mean, after all, "The Who" and "The Guess Who" were able to co-exist with only a moderate amount of confusion... (btw- I was kidding, and you'll just have to trust me that the comment seemed a lot funnier in my head than it reads - sorry for wasting your time).

no problem at all.
I just remembered the famous "Apple (Beatles Company) vs. Apple (computer company)" thing. Well, if you ever have that kind of problems, then it will also mean you're getting somewhere. Like the famous Don Quijote said to his partnerwhen they found some hostile dogs on their way: "Ladran, Sancho. Señal que cabalgamos" Which means: "they bark, Sancho. Which means we are moving". Cheers, Andrés

I am currently looking at the demo version of CEP 2.0 and I am able to play Fruity Loops samples and record them directly into CEP. I am also able to manually play on my MIDI keyboard through Gigasampler LE and record that output into CEP.
I do not have to take the added step of first rendering the Fruity Loops and Gigasampler output sounds to WAV's. In fact, with my stripped-down version of Gigasampler, it is not possible to save the output. My soundcard is an M-Audio Audiophile 2496 which has an internal mixer. So if the audio device parameters in Windows are correctly configured, the output from one application can be piped into the audio input of another. That is how I am able to record the sound from these unrelated programs into CEP. I will try the same trick with the Reason 2.0 demo and post the results. But the soundcard needs to have the capability of functioning as a mixer that can route its output back into its own input. The Audiophile 2496 does this beautifully; and no I do not work for M-Audio! |

Andrés, hey, I hope it's alright if I ask you a question, but, why do you want to use Cool Edit if you have Reason? Can't you edit with Reason? I'm only asking because I've heard great things about Reason, stuff like: 'You'll never need anything else ever again!!!' Well, not exactly like that, but kind of. Anyway, I was thinking about getting Reason, but I'm still trying out the Cool Edit demo. So, if Reason can't edit, I can't see the point of even bothering.
Then again, I don't think Cool Edit can be used as a sequencer... can it? What's more, Reason can be used as a synthesizer right?

Reason lacks the recording audio part. You can't record a guitar, or a voice, or a trombone. It is a player, and not a recorder, that's why they use it with Cubase, etc... and that's why the guys at Propellerheads invented the Rewire thing, so you can use Reason along with your digital audio workstation.
Reason can record midi events, not audio (afaik). Cheers, Andrés

Ahh, I see, but can't you record "midi-events" (not sure what that is :P) with Cool Edit Pro? Cus, if that's the case, I guess there's no point in getting Reason. I'm only asking because I was thinking about trying it, but I'm not too sure about it's advantages yet. All I know is that it's a lot bigger then Cool Edit (took three hours to down load the demo and another hour to download the documents!) I haven't really had a chance to play with it yet. I think it's supposed to also be a synthesizer right? Like, can it make a violin sound? Do you need to get plug-ins in order to use it as a synth?

Forte- Reason is basically a sequenceer/ sampler/ synth station. It's got some great synth sounds, drum sounds, loops, etc, and the features on the seampler are pretty fricking awesome. The synth lets you create your own sounds and patches in the old polyphonic styles using oscillators and other fun stuff. I'm looking into Cubase mainly for it's comapatibility with Reason through the Rewire.
