mixing console

i am having problems with a setup of my console. i

I have a reverb, and compressor going through my console
which in turn the console is going through my computer
through main mix out.

the reverb, and compressor are attached to
compressor is attached to line input 2
reverb attached to line input 3 & 4

what I like to know is how can I set it up that.
I can use the compressor and the reverb unit.
through the console with out having the effects recorded

I add effects through my computer to all voice and instruments

What is your console? Does it have any inserts or aux sends?

If it has inserts for the channel you can use that to send the signal directly to your recorder. It will send one signal to the recorder and another through the rest of the mixer for monitoring.

Then you can setup an effects loop for the reverb using the Aux send to go to the reverb and the aux return or a spare channel to bring the reverb back in. Control the amount of reverb by how much you assign that channel with the Aux send knob.

Using the compression in that setup is a little more tricky. There really is no way to use it just for monitoring without getting pretty complicated and using another Aux send as your recorder feed. The reason for this is because compressors are usually used inline to replace the original signal while effects are usually mixed with the original signal.

Did that make any sense?

Use the Direct Out to send that channel to the recorder.

Use the Aux sends to go to the reverb. Send the reverb output into the Stereo in 9/10. Set the effects mix on the reverb to 100% wet. Use the Aux knob on the channel you want to send to the reverb unit. Control the overall reverb level with the 9/10 slider.

The effects will be heard while playing but will NOT go to your recorder.

What do you mean by that?

The only way you should hear the reverb is thru the mixer with the 9/10 fader up. Is the direct out the only signal you have going to the recorder? There should be no way to hear anything but the dry signal from the channel direct out if you hooked it all up correctly.

well,

the 9/10 channel do work. with the slider.

what i am saying is that , aux send is having no effect in controling the fx .

it's the pre that is adding fx.

also for some odd reason the fx is still going through.

i have all the setting down on 9/10 except the fader.

and on voice as example i have the fx on
and it keeps going through to my computer to my recording device in my computer..

I bet you hooked it up to a pre fader Aux. Is that what you mean? Try the other Aux send it is probably post fader.

Are you absolutely positive the ONLY thing going to your computer is that direct out? It needs to be the direct out on that vocal channel and not a direct out from the master bus.

Tell me EXACTLY how you have everything wired.

Dude, you have to hook the stuff up exactly as I said in order to do this. Please reread the thread and follow the directions. How can you expect people to help if you dont hook it up right then come back and say that it doesnt work?

We are here to help but you gotta do your part. If there is anything in the earlier instructions that doesn't make sense please let me know.
